Senior Waste Management Consultant

The rapidly expanding Waste Management Team in AECOM’s Wimbledon Office is looking for a Senior Waste Management Consultant, with experience to further enhance the team. This is an exciting opportunity to help develop and diversify our team’s capabilities in the south, whilst strengthening working relationships with the wider waste teams located in our northern offices.

It is anticipated that the successful applicant will have substantial experience and ideally be a member of the Chartered Institute of Waste Management. The position will primarily focus on Waste Management in both the operational context and during the demolition and construction phases of new developments, predominately within London’s Urban regeneration market. However, other expertise is welcome.

Ideally, the position will require experience in the following areas:

• Waste management within the planning sector;

• Preparation of operational waste management strategies;

• Waste impact assessments;

• Delivery and servicing strategies;

• Construction Resource Management Plans (CRMPs) (formally Site Waste Management Plans (SWMPs);

• Waste Audits;

• Materials Management Plan;

• Waste licenses and exemptions; and

• Circular Economy and reduction of waste from the design stages of new developments.

The successful applicant will support the leadership of the Team and develop a number of junior staff, helping us to continue to deliver a high quality service to existing clients and to expand our capabilities in the waste management sector.

The Wimbledon Waste Team sits within the wider UK Environment & Planning Business, which comprises over 200 EIA and sustainability specialists. The Wimbledon Waste Team work to support the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) practitioners for large-scale, landmark London developments and provide bespoke specialist advice to planners, architects, developers and the wider design team, in order to shape the future of waste management within London.

The team is involved in all stages of the design process, from initial feasibility and management option studies, through to pre-planning design advice and support, and ultimately to post-planning services, such as producing Construction Resource Management Plans (CRMP’s) and helping to satisfy any planning conditions.

The team specialises in preparing operational and construction waste strategies for some of London’s most high-profile developments, including: :

• South Quay Plaza

o Operational waste management strategy; and

o Waste and recycling ES Chapter

• Earls Court Regeneration

o Operational waste Management Strategy

• Battersea Power Station Redevelopment

o Operational Waste Management Strategy

• St. Mary’s Hospital

o Construction Environmental Management Plan; and

o Operational Waste management Strategy

• Duty of Care Audits on behalf of the Environment Agency

• 79 Camden Road

o Delivery, Servicing and Waste Plan (DSWP); and

o DSWP planning condition audit

• Richborough Power station, Kent

o Demolition and Construction Plan; and

o Materials Management Plan

• Cameroon Sports Stadium

o Waste management and Design Advice

• Enderby Wharf

o Dredged materials for marine management

• South Stream (oil and gas pipeline (Black-Sea))

o Waste management including Marpol regulations

Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the following illustrative roles and responsibilities:

• Oversee the delivery of waste management projects (including attending client meetings, writing and reviewing reports, strategies and application documents)

• Support the preparation of project bids and external business development

• Be a key interface with other senior individuals elsewhere within AECOM

• deliver a high quality service to existing clients and to expand our capabilities in the waste management sector

• Provide staff mentoring and training of junior team members

Minimum Requirements

• Sunstantial experience in Waste Management;

• Experience in project management and financial management of major projects

• A track-record of work winning and successful client account management

• Highly motivated and able to work with limited direction

• Effective and persuasive leadership skills

• Excellent communication and networking skills

Preferred Qualifications

• You will have a good first degree and a second degree in an appropriate environmental discipline.

• You will ideally have chartered status with a relevant professional body or demonstrate you are working towards this status.
