The Careers Service sits within the Student Services Department. It offers a wide range of support to students in all years of study and graduates up to three years after completing their studies, as well as early career researchers. The Careers Service’s objectives are to work collaboratively across the University to support all students in building an awareness of their skills and attributes to allow them to define and achieve personal career success.

An opportunity has arisen for a proactive, creative and commercially minded individual to work within the Careers Service to deliver a central information, advice and guidance service to all clients of the Careers Service. The adviser will develop projects to enhance student employability as well as interactive online learning resources, and write content for the website.

You will have a degree and substantial employment experience, in any sector. If you do not have a professional careers qualification, you must be willing to undertake postgraduate study and training. In addition to excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a range of colleagues, you will have the ability to develop and drive new initiatives using a range of technologies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
 Collaborating with colleagues in the Careers Adviser team develop a programme of central careers provision to complement work with academic departments.
 Provide careers information, advice and guidance to students in individual and group sessions.
 Develop a range of interactive online learning resources using a variety of technologies, for example labour market information, to inform service development and student choices.
 Independently and collaboratively where appropriate, develop and manage a variety of projects to enhance student employability.
 Develop and maintain expertise about the employment market through regular updates (e.g., independent research, national and regional events, employer contacts) and liaising with the Employer Team within the Careers Service.
 Research and write web based careers information.
 Use a variety of methods, including social media platforms, to communicate with students and employers.
 Support work in academic departments or with specific targeted groups of students based on service need.
 Manage own workload while responding to changes and fluctuations in demand through University strategic plans and from all stakeholders, and tailor services accordingly.
 Contribute to the development of networks of, and relationships with, external contacts (e.g., employers, alumni) in order to provide employability opportunities for students.
 Maintain continuous professional development in order to maintain high levels of professionalism and expertise in careers information, advice and guidance through taking part in, and contributing to, internal training and professional development as well as that of relevant professional associations (e.g., AGCAS).
 As a member of our Professional staff you will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to the professional behaviours set out in the Sheffield Professional Framework.
 Any other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post.
