Manufacturing Engineer (Production)

Role Purpose

Factory improvements, engineering planning & launch improvements of new products.

Key Responsibilities

·Produce and expedite general factory engineering improvement plans

·Where required, provide support to the value streams or projects as depicted by the Production Engineering Manager

·Project manage all engineering none capital continuous improvement projects for your area. Write Specifications as required, liaise with suppliers and obtain relevant quotes.

·Support NPI engineers on production builds / know how transfer and run at rates to achieve expected output.

·Support the Capex Engineers on passing off production components on new equipment and know how transfer.

·Create and execute scrap/rectification reduction plans within the area.

·Ensure Quality systems are implemented, maintained and improvements identified / actioned, including SPC, Poke yoke, PFMEA, Capabilities, etc.

·Attend all customer quality concerns and ensure route cause process fixes, are implemented to prevent reoccurrence across the area.

·Ensure all cells have proven and approved process capability and visualise gaps/risks and bottlenecks, develop and execute plans to close any gaps/reduce bottlenecks.

·Conduct process audits and risk assessments, and action concerns to closure.

·Ensure manufacturing engineering systems are up to date and appropriate for business needs and GKN requirements.

·Respond to customer issues that arise, where necessary.

·Ensure where possible, that permanent solutions are read across to other cells.

·Liaise with other support functions resource, to resolve issues.

·Support lean activities within the value stream and production areas (SMED, Std work,6E,7W)

·Investigate and implement new process standards, releases, Analysis and workshop support.

·Identify and execute tool cost reduction projects across your area and liaise with purchasing dept. on any cost saving and reductions.

·Support problem solving activities.

·Manage / sustain leadership standard work (LSW) for your area.

·Provide input into the VAVE system by taking responsibility for the creation of ideas within the production areas.

·Ensure the correct statistical techniques are used. Audit where necessary

·Facilitate Customer visits, where necessary.

·Create Capex (A3) Proposals for budget & strategy requirements

·Raise & Progress Deviations, PCR,s and CFR,s in line with business requirements.

·Proactively seek quality improvements

·Where there are business risks, provide day to day production support as indicated by Production Engineering Manager.

·Ensure that a safe working environment exists within the cells and shop floor areas.

·Ensure concern investigations are carried out effectively

·Produce relevant CNC machine programs and record and monitor sufficient backups.

·Modify stage drawings using Pro-Engineer Creo solid modelling CAD package as and when required.

·Lead ‘D’ phase product or process changes request via the CFR system.

·Attend Meetings when required including, Daily PVD, Scrap, Quality, OEE etc.

·Raise stock control request when required and identify / remove old / obsolete tooling.

·Std minute Reduction plans via means of cycle time reductions, OEE, manning changes, automation / process improvements etc.

·QAD – Use company ordering system to raise orders and TEA’S / SE

Qualifications / Experience / Skills

Target qualification: Foundation Degree or equivalent

Key skill/experience:

·Assembly knowledge and experience

·Preference for working in an assembly environment for ideally 2-3 years

·Automotive industry experience

·High volume production desirable

·Robot programming knowledge desirable

·Safety awareness

·CAD Knowledge – AutoCAD / Pro-E / Solid Modelling

·Tool and gauge design and awareness

·Tool cost reductions

·CNC setting and operating

·CNC Program writing – Siemens / Fanuc

·Report writing

·Knowledge of Quality Tool including implementation (QIP, A3 etc..), Investigation & Resolution

·Knowledge of production processes

·Knowledge of PFMEA

·Knowledge of statistical techniques

·Computer literate

·Problem solving skills.

.Interpretation of drawings, technical specifications, and product control documentation

·Project management

·Knowledge of Lean Principles.
