Senior Technologist - Transportation

Job Summary

The successful candidate should demonstrate qualities of an experienced Project- and Technical manager with strong technical competencies and leadership qualities in the South African Transportation Engineering environment with specific emphasis on SANRAL and Western Cape Government roads projects.

Duties and responsibilities may include technical analysis, report writing, project and task management, scoping, scheduling, and budgeting, project tracking and controls, staff development and management, and business development. Acting in an independent, authoritative capacity, the candidate successfully must undertake multiple projects of various size and scope simultaneously, coordinates with clients and stakeholders, manages project team and staff, responds to changing project needs and goals, coordinates personnel and deliverables.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Conceptual and detailed design of roads projects;

Provide essential technical design and management support to the team;

Guide and mentor junior subordinate staff;

Preparation/checking of contract documentation and bills of quantities;

Administration of construction contracts;

Ad-hoc site supervision;

Complete any other work related to projects within the department;

Staff development and management,

Business development,

Lead tender or proposal activities to obtain work and/or supply inputs on road design discipline for large tenders;

Project management;

Undertake projects adhering to a quality management system and ensure the they are executed to high technical standards and within budgets and programme; and

Responsible for financial management, administration and control of projects.

Minimum Requirements

Experience:

Minimum of 7 years’ experience within a Consulting Engineering environment.

Experience with BIM (Building Information Modelling) processes for creating and managing all of the information on a project – before, during and after construction.

Experience with SANRAL and Western Cape Government roads projects and clients.

Good understanding of the transportation industry.

Preferred:

10 years’ experience within a Consulting Engineering environment.

Experience with projects in Africa.

Project Management accreditation (e.g. PMP or Pr CPM).

Enthusiastic team player.

Ability to multi-task - work on several projects simultaneously.

Ability to plan, lead and execute work independently;

Ability to work, lead and/or support a professional team in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Additional Comments:

Own reliable transport and valid driver's license;

Experience in MS Projects; MS Office suite, AutoCAD and Civil 3D or Civil Designer suite.

Although position is in the SA West District related duties shall be performed in all districts including New Africa.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree in Civil Engineering (Transportation).

Professionally registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
