The Energy, Cities and Climate Change Consulting team in London is a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, policy experts and environmental scientists who focus on the challenges and opportunities of energy, climate change and cities. Its areas of business include:

Modelling and research at city / regional scale to inform resilience, energy and sustainability assessments and strategies
Energy, climate change and sustainable development policy development
Running low carbon change programmes, including coordination of technical, commercial and procurement advice
Energy masterplanning including techno-economic analysis, feasibility and design of low carbon energy systems
Advice and strategic support on low carbon energy and resilience investment including business case and procurement
Detailed design of energy systems with a focus on district heating.

Role

We have a new opportunity for an experienced, intelligent and committed Cities and Climate Change Consultant, to join us to develop technical, policy and commercial solutions for cities and businesses which help them achieve outcomes for carbon reduction, building resilience and adapting to climate change and other drivers of change.

This permanent post will provide a diverse role within the team spanning:

Research and analysis of climate change mitigation, adaptation and resilience
Modelling of energy, emissions and related data to inform climate change and sustainability strategies
Preparing sustainability frameworks and plans for cities and projects
Energy masterplanning and quantitative modelling for low carbon energy systems
Techno-economic assessments of sustainable and low carbon projects
Preparing reports and presentations to advise clients on options, risks and appropriate actions
Supporting senior staff in workshops and other engagement processes for public and private sector organisations

Requirements and skills

Essential Skills and Knowledge:
Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree in Environmental Science, Geography, Urban Studies, Public Policy or related topics, with particular focus on climate change and sustainability. Other relevant STEM qualifications will be considered but working knowledge of sustainable development and energy systems is essential.
Evidence of data analysis and modelling skills (both qualitative and quantitative)
Typically 3-5 years’ experience working in a relevant field of technical consulting. Other relevant experience will be considered (e.g. city government or NGO)
Experience and track record in at least two of: carbon assessments, climate adaptation and resilience, energy systems, urban planning and policy, project sustainability strategy, data analysis, economic cost-benefit analysis
Understanding of the principles of climate change and its relationship to the planning, design and operation of the built environment
Project management experience, including project planning and budgeting.
Holding or working towards chartership in a relevant professional institution.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

Research or project experience outside UK
Knowledge of current UK and international energy and carbon policy and legislation
Willingness to travel from time to time
Knowledge and experience of city planning and policy processes
Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams
Experience in a client-facing role.
Presentation and graphic design experience
