Job Summary

The rapidly expanding Waste Management Team in AECOM’s Wimbledon Office is looking for a Waste Management Consultant, ideally with 2-5 years’ experience to further enhance the team. This is an exciting opportunity to work for one of the World’s largest multi-disciplinary engineering consultancies and provide technical waste management advice for landmark London developments.

The successful applicant will support the Wimbledon Waste Team, helping us continue to deliver a high quality service to existing clients and to be instrumental in the our continued success. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to growing the team, either through exploring new work streams, and / or assisting in presenting to clients, planners, architects and others to promote the team and its capabilities.

Specifically, the position will require experience in the following areas:

• Masters level or above in a related discipline;

• Experience delivering waste advice and waste chapters for ESs;

• Experience of advising architects, developers, or others as to the requirements for waste and recycling management within an urban setting;

• Presenting to and meeting with clients, developers and the wider design team;

• Awareness in the principles of the Waste Hierarchy;

• Awareness of EIA as a technical specialism, including knowledge of EIA regulations and current best practice guidance;

• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail; and

• Strong numeracy, written and verbal communication skills and the aptitude to rationally explain, explore and discuss environmental issues

The successful applicant will assist the team in providing advice and guidance to architects and developers in order to guide design evolution to take account of requirements for sustainable and sufficient waste and recycling management facilities. This process will culminate in the production of Operational Waste Management Strategies or Waste and Recycling Environmental Statement (ES) Chapters, which will support planning applications.

Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the following illustrative roles and responsibilities:

• Support the delivery of waste management projects (including attending client meetings, writing and reviewing reports, strategies and application documents);

• Understand and implement project management principles and fully appreciate the need to work within project budgets;

• Assist in the production of Environmental Statement (ES) Chapters;

• Analyse data effectively and carry out desk based studies and site visits when required;

• Participate in team meetings, client briefs and other meetings as and when required;

• Keep up to date with relevant environmental legislation, policy and guidance;

• Mentor and develop more junior colleagues with the support of the wider Wimbledon Waste Team

• Understand and comply with quality and health & safety requirements and ensure these are addressed throughout a project.

Minimum Requirements

• Experience in Environmental and Waste Management;

• Experience in project direction/management and financial management of major projects;

• A track-record of work winning and successful client account management;

• Highly motivated and able to work well within a team;

• Excellent communication skills, including report writing; and

• Interest in urban regeneration and waste management.

Preferred Qualifications

• You will have a good first degree and a second degree in an appropriate environmental discipline; and

• Be familiar with a view to join (unless already a member) a relevant chartered body (i.e. the Chartered Institute of Waste Management (CIWM)) and be willing to work towards chartership in CIWM within the next 2-5 years
