Metallurgical Engineer, Tech Center AUB

Role Purpose

Americas Region; Role is regional in nature, but may also be asked to work on local or global projects as required in metallurgical engineering related activities.

A key member of the Advanced Engineering team reporting to the Manager, Materials and Testing Tech Center Auburn Hills and supporting the Director of Advance Engineering Applications.

Meet requirements within the Americas region for metallurgical support.

Ensure successful and timely response from the team.

Facilitate effective communication between the team and regional groups.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Provide technical support to regional engineering, sales and customers with respect to materials various PM and powder forged components and related.
Ensure proper support for winning the business in the areas of materials and materials processing.
Actively participate in product development when required.
Report on specific projects within the group using corporate reporting tools and systems.
Operation of metallurgical lab equipment and managing regularly defined equipment preventive maintenance procedures
Conducting all required sampling, testing and reporting in accordance with work instructions and the ability to generate metallurgical certificates
Supports the quality department in non-conformance reduction, gauging maintenance and records management
Participates in teams using LEAN tools and practices in order to achieve continuous and sustained improvements
Directly supports metallurgical requirements for regional plants and engineering teams to achieve goals and objectives
Ability to write complete and concise metallurgical reports
Various other duties as assigned
Understand GKN standards and methods along with industry standards.
Maintain technical documentation as needed.
Other duties as may be assigned or required.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills

Minimum BS in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering
MS in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering desired.
Previous experience in a materials engineering environment with good problem solving skills
Previous experience with metallurgical materials and processes
Experience with powder metal desired
Ability to work directly with management in a fast paced environment
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to manage and function in a multiple reporting relationship structure
Excellent organizational and planning skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language
Demonstrated ability to be proactive and take initiative, including performance of duties exercising independent judgment
Ability to work effectively in a team environment – to effectively listen, challenge and communicate
Demonstrates professionalism and flexibility
Open to travel
