Senior Traffic Engineer

Job Summary
Our Transportation division has a vacancy for a Senior Engineer in the Traffic and Local Roads team in our Leeds office with demonstrable experience of successful project delivery and scheme design and assessment.

We are looking for creative and flexible individuals to develop strong working relationships with local clients and help us grow our business throughout the Yorkshire region. We would consider the role on either a full or part-time basis and are happy to look at a range of different working patterns.

You will join a pro-active team that provides a full range of traffic engineering technical services and undertakes a wide range of projects for local government clients both in the region and for key clients nationally.

You will have a proven track record of project delivery. The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team.

AECOM is passionate about bringing global knowledge and experience to bear at a local level. As a result a requirement of the role is to be flexible to support project delivery across the business and in different geographies as the need dictates.

Project delivery
Oversee the preparation of feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs for traffic engineering schemes
Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief, checking the work of junior staff as appropriate
Oversee the preparation of detailed technical reports providing specialist technical contributions as required
Following successful accreditation on the AECOM project management system, act as a Project Manager including monitoring financial performance. Comprehensive training on AECOM’s project management system will be provided.

Work winning
Establish strong working relationships with local clients in the Yorkshire region, being the key point of contact for meetings and client liaison
Develop strong working relationships with other internal teams within AECOM’s Transportation division
Prepare detailed proposals, client briefs and fee proposals for approval by senior colleagues and contribute to major bids as required.

Staff development / mentoring
Manage career progression of line reports
Promote a health and safety focused culture by undertaking mandatory duties, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members, and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design.

Minimum Requirements
Excellent technical and communication skills
Demonstrated experience in forming strong client relationships
A successful track record in the management and delivery of a portfolio of traffic engineering and local highway projects including an ability to effectively manage project commercial risks
An ability to demonstrate high level of experience and expertise in several of the following areas:
Traffic engineering/management design
Infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians
Traffic signal design
Bus priority and BRT
Road safety audits, analysis and design,
Traffic signing and wayfinding
Parking, road safety and public transport design
Traffic Regulation Orders and parking
Traffic modelling software (e.g. VISSIM, TRANSYT and LinSig etc.)
Preliminary and detailed design including 3D design and local roads/highway design
Applying relevant design standards including good working knowledge of DMRB
Project manager / task leader including client and stakeholder liaison; preparation of technical reports; and checking work/specifications of junior staff
Technical development, mentoring and motivation of junior staff.

Whilst not essential any of the following skills would be desirable:
Specialist traffic engineering knowledge
Urban Design/Streetscape
Project Management qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2)
CSCS Card holder.

Preferred Qualifications
A relevant degree and be a Chartered Engineer or working towards an appropriate Chartered status with membership of a professional institution.
