Job Summary
Our Transportation team based in Liverpool currently have a vacancy for a Principal Consultant with experience of areas such as Project management, Highways Design, Traffic Engineering Design, Traffic Management and Regulation, and Traffic Signal Modelling to support a growing workload.

The ideal candidate will be chartered or working to achieve this status and will have proven experience in design, modelling, project management and staff management with evidence of delivering to quality, time and budget. The role would suit a proactive, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team. We would consider the role on either a full or part-time basis and are happy to look at a range of different working patterns.

AECOM’s North West Traffic team has an established track record of successfully delivering major schemes to clients across the region, nationally and internationally. The team provides concept and preliminary design, detailed design, and traffic modelling services on a wide range of projects and supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a highway interface. We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload. Our position on a number of significant regional and national Transportation Frameworks provides the team with excellent opportunities across the local government / public sector market ensuring an exciting future.

The appropriate level of expertise is required in order that the following responsibilities can be carried out to the necessary standards:
Successfully delivering client bids and fee proposals.
Acting as a Project Manager including monitoring of financial performance.
Ensure technical content and quality of output produced.
Undertaking Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling Safety-in-Design requirements.
Line managing, mentoring and supervising staff in the performance of their duties.
Ensuring appropriate local resourcing levels for work to be delivered efficiently.
Actively recruiting to grow the team.

Minimum Requirements
Proven ability of leading single and multi-disciplined projects as project manager/ task leader.
Experience of dealing directly with clients, local authorities and scheme stakeholders.
Demonstrable experience in traffic engineering design (including traffic management, cycling, walking, public transport and parking design) at concept, feasibility and preliminary stages.
Demonstrable application of the Traffic Signs Regulations and Traffic Signs Manuals.
Understanding of Health and Safety requirements including CDM responsibilities.
Reasonable geographical flexibility to support project and business requirements.
Excellent technical and communication skills.

Whilst not essential any of the following skills would be desirable:
Experience in traffic signal modelling including LINSIG, TRANSYT and VISSIM/Paramics.
Experience of applying DMRB.
Undertaking detailed design and urban realm design.
Understanding of UTC, MOVA and SCOOT.
Knowledge of ITS systems and how they link with Traffic Signals.
Knowledge of ITS systems and how they link with Traffic Signals.

Preferred Qualifications
You will have a relevant degree and will be a Chartered Engineer or will be working towards an appropriate Chartered status with membership of a professional institution.
