Technical Knowledge System Lead

Role Purpose
GKN Aerospace is a successful global aerospace engineering organisation, designing and manufacturing complex, high-performance, high-value assemblies for the world’s civil and military aircraft producers. GKN Aerospace employs over 19,000 people worldwide (US, Sweden, Netherland, UK, Germany and India).

As part of GKN’s Digital Agenda, GKN Aerospace has identified a global initiative to develop, deploy and maintain a Technology Knowledge System (TKS). As part of this initiative, this role focusses on establishing a system which enables global accessibility and effective exploitation of codified technical information and data residing in multiple platforms across GKN’s global business.

Key success criteria for this role:

successful global implementation of an enterprise wide Knowledge Portal (IT solution, people and process) to find, access and leverage global technical data,

cultural change with by clear evidence of utilisation of the knowledge portal and exploitation of the data and positive feedback from the site leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities
To promote, develop, deliver and maintain the Knowledge Portal (an Enterprise Search and Exploitation system) and ensure its alignment with TKS Strategies/Objectives.

Interpret the direction of strategy/planning and creative leads to implement or build an effective enterprise wide Search capability within the constraints of the business IT systems and global compliance

Lead the creation and presentation of communication packs and integrated marketing campaigns

Communicate and coordinate with business teams ensuring that the system strategy supports business goals and objectives

Establish the right level of divisional and local organisation to ensure effective support to the system, agreeing roles and responsibilities with local management

Continuously monitor, evolve and Moderate the system to ensure global compliance and uptake

Establish long lasting relationships with technical data owners, Export control, IP, finance and IT to build and enforce effective practices and Guidelines to ensure global compliance which are embedded across each business stream

Utilising data analytics tools to generate insights on Technical Data utilisation globally, Summarizing insights and conversations to create actionable, client-facing reports that lead to optimisation of systems and processes

Respond to comments, when appropriate, in order to foster a positive engagement and add value to the user’s experience

Qualifications and Skills

Formal Qualifications

Desired Project Management Certification or Change Management Certification or Knowledge Management Certification

Engineering or Technology Degree (Software, IT, etc)

Eligible for SC Security clearance.

Specific Functional Capabilities, Knowledge and Skills Required

Experience

Experience of all aspects of IT Systems implementation including business requirement analysis, process mapping, development, customisation, integration with other business systems, upgrades, migrations, consolidations and maintenance.

Demonstrable experience of Change Initiatives across multiple geographical locations

Experience of working with engineering, manufacturing processes and IT tools e.g. CAD, CAE etc preferably in Aerospace Industry

Capabilities

Able to deliver IT projects with multiple stakeholders using standard PM principles, manging deliverables and conflict

Able to author, construct & assess quality of key deliverables

Provide expert leadership to the GKN global business on Enterprise Search systems and exploitation of information of data found

Able to work collaboratively, across geographical and cultural boundaries, engaging with multiple End users

Knowledge

Above average knowledge of IT systems including Web based application software and hardware, latest in enterprise wide search and knowledge systems

Detailed understanding of the application of technical data inside an engineering product development process and requirements of quality control

Fundamental understanding of knowledge Management principles and the application in a technology or engineering field

Knowledge of LEAN fundamentals and their application in an engineering environment an advantage

Language Skills (Highlight if Essential or Desired)

Fluent in English

Travel Requirements

Partial travel to GKN global Sites in Sweden, US and Netherlands (mainly)
