Head of Operations - Filton and Western Approach

Role Purpose
This role will be based in Filton and Western Approach. (Previous applicants need not re-apply)
To be accountable for the delivery of budget sales, profit and cash flow for GKN Manufacturing businesses in Filton including the delivery of headcount, inventory and productivity performance metrics. To be accountable for ensuring development of manufacturing best practices and their deployment into Filton and Western Approach in support of closer integration between the two sites. This role has functional leadership responsibility for the Head of Operations for Western Approach.

Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement Manufacturing Strategy focused on process improvement and best in class manufacturing processes to exceed customer expectations, developing a business fit for the future

Focus on performance improvement by using the skills, talent and creativity of all employees within the business to drive competitiveness and growth

Develop a stable, process focused organisation that safely delivers every time for the customer

Make safety the number one priority, ensuring everyone plays their part in a safe operation

Champion a Lean and Continuous Improvement culture ensuring all value streams embrace it to deliver benefit to the business

Embrace new technology and use it to deliver benefits to the business

Act as part of the GKN Filton and Western Approach senior leadership team to gain and influence resources required to support the business

Work as part of the senior leadership team to ensure that all business objectives are met. Develop strong collaborative relationships to deliver the best opportunities for the business and individuals to develop

Develop strong co-operative customer relationships

In Filton:

-Drive performance improvement through GKN ‘Gold Standard’ operations focusing on achieved 100% on time delivery (internal and external) and a route map to zero non-conformance

-Deliver customer metrics including Deliver Schedule Adherence and Quality metrics to ensure customer satisfaction

-Ensure that new programmes are clearly mapped, managing the transition to production in a timely manner

-Focus on making the business cost competitive to support the delivery of new work across the business

Ensure that robust planning is in place to support the manufacturing business to be able to meet their customer expectations

Lead the logistics function to deliver a timely and professional service to internal and external customers

To lead estates and facilities activity including building capital projects, building internal maintenance and development :

-Ensure the performance of supplied services such as facilities maintenance including cleaning are adequately managed and agreed performance targets are met

-Lead the services activities to ensure that machine maintenance is planned and organised to meet the operational performance targets, to achieve first class machine tool capabilities, to manage support services, including outsourced contracts, and to deliver continuous improvement

Qualifications / Experience / Skills
Essential :
Educated to degree level, or equivalent experience, in Engineering
Strong leadership skills

Data driven decision making skills

Ability to manage stakeholder relationships

Proven analytical skills

Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills

Ability to work in a matrix managed business

Capable of interfacing professionally with customers and suppliers
