Principal CAD/BIM Manager

Job Summary
We are currently recruiting for a CAD/BIM Manager to join our busy and expanding Bridges and Structures team in our centrally located Birmingham office

Key Accountabilities

The role will be responsible for preparing engineering CAD/BIM models using industry standard software and will also include embedding the technical standards and protocols for managing the use of this software.

The Principal CAD/BIM Manager function will be to lead a team of 6-8 CAD modellers, to ensure that they acquire and maintain the skills necessary to deliver projects in the evolving CAD/BIM environment required by our clients and liaising with the local and wider AECOM Business Leadership and BIM Director to ensure that the team achieves its business performance targets. They will lead on project related activities and in respect of establishing, implementing and maintaining Company Policy in respect of CAD/BIM Modelling.

The Manager will be capable of making a significant contribution to the growth of the Structures Team by proactively identifying opportunities for business advantage through the innovative use of CAD/BIM Modelling technology. The role will also be responsible for developing and retaining good quality staff, facilitating training, completing appraisals, interim reviews implementing HR policies. Will be engaged in recruitment as appropriate.

The role reports to the local Structures Team Leader and also to the BIM Manager/Director.

Job/Project Accountabilities:

The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job/Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standards and this Job description should be viewed in conjunction with that for a Line Manager if appropriate.
Lead the delivery of CAD/BIM modelling output of projects from the Birmingham Structures team and proactively seek to contribute to the CAD/BIM delivery of projects from other locations as required.
Liaise with the Local Business Line Manager with regards to the development of CAD/BIM modelling throughout the local Structural Stream
Liaise with the AECOM EMIA BIM Steering Group with regards to the development of CAD/BIM modelling capability of the Structures Team.
Liaise with the Project Managers with regards to project requirements for CAD/BIM.
Upskilling the Chelmsford team to deliver BIM Level 2 (progressing to Level 3) processes into everyday project production and delivery
Implement CAD/BIM modelling techniques and processes to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the production process.
Implement and maintain the use company CAD/BIM Modelling Standards and protocols throughout the team.
Maintain an overview of developments in IT based CAD/BIM modelling systems and standard Codes of Practice.
Have a proven record in establishing and maintaining a Common Data Environment for BIM delivery
Ensure all project data is correctly established and maintained in accordance with company standards and project requirements
The use of Autodesk and Bentley Modelling applications will be necessary to periodically assist the general CAD/BIM team.
Reporting to Local or Business BIM Manager/Director.
Proven track record of Team leader responsibilities
Seek opportunities to work with and collaborate with the GDC team in Gurgaon, India
Monitor resource utilisation and seek opportunities to share staff across the sector and wider business
Contribute and collaborate with the wider AECOM team in developing and implementing new/future technologies
Financial Performance
Complete time cards on a weekly basis, allocating time correctly against job and submitting by the close of business each Thursday.
Understand commercial constraints and progress on projects.
Work within financial and programme constraints.
Maintain an overview of the productivity of CAD/BIM Staff
Understand the IMS procedures, their importance and their application to projects.
Comply with the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and increase own awareness of Health and Safety procedures.
Actively implement Company policy on archiving and safeguard the basic principle of workplace improvement that the absolute minimum of project record should be stored in the workplace.

Minimum Requirements
Significant experience or working and delivering BIM/CAD projects in a similar role on Bridges and Structures projects.
Experience using Bentley MicroStation and AECOsim and Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit and/or Civil3D.
Experience with RC and Steelwork detailing.
Previous experience of managing a small team.

Preferred Qualifications
A Principal CAD/BIM Manager will have obtained a basic technical qualification (HNC or equivalent).
