We offer impact assessment and environmental management services that meet client needs for feasibility, impact analysis, and operational compliance as well as remediation, restoration and reuse of impacted property.

The rapidly expanding Waste Management Team in AECOM’s Wimbledon Office is looking for a Graduate Waste Management Consultant to further enhance the team. This is an exciting opportunity to work for one of the World’s largest multi-disciplinary engineering consultancies and provide technical waste management advice for landmark London developments.

The position will primarily focus on Waste Management in both the operational context and during the demolition and construction phases of new developments, predominately within London’s urban regeneration market.

You will assist the Wimbledon Waste Team in providing advice and guidance to architects and developers in order to guide design evolution to take account of requirements for sustainable and sufficient waste and recycling management facilities. This process will culminate in the production of Operational Waste Management Strategies or Waste and Recycling Environmental Statement (ES) Chapters, which will support planning applications.


You will be expected to work under the guidance of one of our Associate Directors and undertake the following illustrative roles and responsibilities:

• Support the delivery of waste management projects (including attending client meetings, writing and reviewing reports, strategies and application documents);
• Understand and implement project management principles and fully appreciate the need to work within project budgets;
• Assist in the production of waste chapters for Environmental Statements (ES);
• Analyse data effectively and carry out desk based studies and site visits when required;
• Participate in team meetings, client briefs and other meetings as and when required;
• Prioritise project actions and meet commitments on an on-going basis while taking ownership and responsibility for the quality and completion of work;
• Interact with the EIA and wider Planning team, where relevant, to ensure the smooth running of projects;
• Keep up to date with relevant environmental legislation, policy and guidance;
• Research issues as part of the waste management process and to provide ideas, solutions and expertise to the Wimbledon Waste Team; and
• Understand and comply with quality and health & safety requirements and ensure these are addressed throughout a project.

Minimum Requirements
The Wimbledon Waste Team is constantly looking at ways to expand its capabilities and will welcome applicants with expertise in the following areas:

• You will have a good first degree and a second degree with a relevant MSc in Environmental and Waste Management;
• Be highly motivated and able to work well within a team;
• Hold excellent numerical, organizational and verbal communication skills, as well as report writing with good attention to detail and an aptitude to rationally explain, explore and discuss environmental issues
• Demonstrate a keen interest in urban regeneration and waste management and an awareness in the principles of the Waste Hierarchy;
• Have a good understanding of EIA as a technical specialism, including knowledge of EIA regulations and current best practice guidance

Preferred Qualifications

• Intend to join a relevant chartered body (i.e. the Chartered Institute of Waste Management (CIWM) and be willing to work towards chartership in CIWM within the next 4-6 years
