Supply Chain Manager

Role Purpose
Overall management responsibility for the procurement of all parts, raw materials, supplies, capital equipment and contract services in support of applicable schedules and budgets for Orangeburg, SC operations. The position is responsible for providing departmental leadership and direction, with an emphasis on purchasing cost controls, supplier partnerships, high performance team building and the professional development of department staff. Position will be accountable for optimizing inventory turns, the disposal of surplus materials and the management of storeroom operations.

Key Responsibilities
A. Direct

Influence program and business cost through organizational decisions, the establishment of proper schedules, budgetary procedures, cost controls, and the ongoing development of partnerships with the company's supplier base.

B. Indirect

Influence the company's ability to compete for business by implementing a proactive approach to meeting the needs of both internal and external customers. Develop and maintain open lines of communication with the broad base of vendors and suppliers. Influence costs through proper planning and coordination of materials and manpower in support of manufacturing operations. Monitor, where applicable, vendor process certification and vendor compliance with ISO 9000 requirements.

C. Key Duties

A. Manage the procurement of parts, raw materials, supplies, capital equipment and contract services to ensure business and program schedules support of a 98% on-time delivery performance standard.

C. Establish and maintain a procurement policy and procedure manual that (1) effectively describes an efficient, professional methodology to conduct procurement activities, and (2) meets the requirements of customer, internal or governmental audit procedures.

D. Develop a professional development program for departmental staff that includes ongoing technical skill development.

E. Establish Inventory control policies and procedures that reduce WIP and warehouse inventory to + 5% of planned inventories.

F. Develop and implement sound business practices and supplier partnerships that control purchasing costs and increase the effectiveness of the vendor base.

Completes key job duties and other tasks as assigned.

Prepares and conducts regular employee performance reviews with each member of the staff, at least on a quarterly basis.

Provides leadership and direction with emphasis on team building through effective communications, in developing an efficient organizational structure that is responsive to program requirements and changes. Assigns effective lines of responsibility and authority including the development of key personnel to maintain performance for subordinates, appraises them of their progress and advises them regarding professional and skills development to further their career objectives and produce a more effective work force.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Business Management or Administration and eight to ten years of progressively responsible purchasing experience in a large manufacturing environment are required by the position. An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered. A thorough knowledge of MRP systems and advanced personal computer skills are required. Excellent communication and high performance team building skills are also required.
