Job Summary

The Indian Navy has appointed AECOM as the project management consultant for its prestigious Project Seabird – Phase IIA. The largest naval infrastructure project for India, it involves creation of a naval base at Karwar on the west coast of India. Upon completion, this $3 billion program and effort will provide the Indian Navy with its largest naval base on the west coast and also the largest naval base east of the Suez Canal.
During the decade-long project, AECOM will manage and oversee the planning, design, contracting, construction and acceptance of the entire works, including construction of a new Naval Air Station.

AECOM is looking for a Safety Specialist The responsibilities for this role shall include but not be limited to the following:

Monitor the contractor's activities, to ensure compliance with their SH&E plan/procedures & regulations
(Spends more than 75% of time on site inspecting jobsite & accommodations for unsafe conditions.)
Organize and participate in site safety meetings and training programs.
Maintain close liaison with the Client’s and Contractor’s Safety Personnel.
Review safety inspection reports as submitted by Safety Officers. Conduct own inspections as required by HSES Management Plan.
Check safety requirements in method statements and permit to work procedures submitted by the Contractor.
Provide corrective action recommendations in the field. Be willing to stop work if necessary.
Check site security, fire, first aid and welfare facilities and procedures appropriate to the works are provided and properly maintained.
Assist in investigating all accidents and dangerous occurrences and report in accordance with AECOM and program requirements.
Drive safety cultural change/behaviors through behavioral based safety processes.

Minimum Requirements
BE/B.Tech Engineering.
Excellent working knowledge of industry practices/safety/quality management systems.
Up to date knowledge of all issues relating to Safety, Health and Environment in the Middle East.
Prior experience on roads and highways projects.
Knowledge and previous experience with QCS 2010 preferable.
Knowledge and previous experience with Labour Accommodation inspections and standards.
High level of literacy skills in English
Clear Verbal communication skills
Ability to lead a small team

Preferred Qualifications
Be able to communicate at all levels of work force (i.e. Labourers, Foreman, safety team, project engineers).
Clearly communicate in both verbal and written English.
Be confident, professional, & assertive. Must be able to handle conflict appropriately.
Be proactive - thinking outside of the box to help anticipate and solve hazardous conditions.
