Senior Software Development Engineer, Amazon Video - Content Acqusition Optimisation

The Amazon Video team delivers high-quality instant video to Amazon customers through our Prime subscription as well as purchases, rentals and channels. Amazon believes so deeply in the mission of Amazon Video that we've launched our own studio to create original and exclusive content, such as The Grand Tour, The Man in the High Castle and Transparent.

The Content Acquisition Optimization team is building decision support tools to enable Amazon to acquire better content for Prime Video globally. We are looking for a senior engineer to lead this team through the next phase of our evolution. This includes:

· Implement the next generation forecasting systems to predict the Customer interest of new TV shows and movies before they come onto the service.
· Extend our stream forecasting tools to predict the propensity for content to acquire new customers and influence Prime renewal.
· Identify signals representative of market popularity for all video content available in each country (Prime Video is available in over 200 countries) and implement content acquisition decision support tools in new markets.
· Longer term you will have the opportunity to influence the strategic direction of Amazon Video. You will design and build the next generation of tools to recommend the ideal content mix in each market, allocate billions of dollars in content spend across the world, identify gaps in the catalogue and highlight underserved segments of the customer base.

In this role you will work with senior scientists and engineers within Amazon and draw on your deep and broad technical expertise to solve the most challenging content selection problems using machine learning and big data techniques. This is a hands-on role but you will also mentor engineers within the team, influence overarching system design and provide leadership on complex technical issues.


· Degree in Computer Science or related field
· Experience developing in at least one of Java, C++, Python or Scala
· You should have taken a leading role in building reliable, scalable software that has been successfully delivered to customers
· You actively lead code reviews, design reviews, automated testing, whiteboard discussions, back-of-the-napkin designs at lunch, and random chats in the hallway about awesome ideas
· Experience leading & influencing software engineering best practices within your team and across others for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
· Experience mentoring software engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
· Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy


· Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
· Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between
· Experience taking projects from scoping requirements through V1 launch and V2 iterations.
· Experience with big data/cluster computing environments e.g. MongoDB, Hadoop, Amazon EMR.
· Experience with machine learning, deep learning, data mining, and/or statistical analysis tools.
