Research Support Officer

We wish to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic individual to provide specialist support for the Department’s ambitious research programme including support for PGR student administration, a wide range of research events and assistance with the Department’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) processes.

Applicants must be able to communicate with staff and students at all levels and maintain confidentiality. Good organisational skills are needed, along with the ability to prioritise a varied workload. You will have 5 GCSEs including English and Maths (or have equivalent experience.)

The post is fixed term with a starting date of as soon as possible for a period of 6 months.

Post-Graduate Research

• Administrative support for the PGR applications process, providing a first class admissions
service from receipt to registration stage:

o Respond to enquiries in a timely manner, providing information as required;
o Check application forms and liaise with academic colleagues on potential applicants;
o Process admissions decisions;
o Assist with the administration of the scholarships processes;
o Ensure all correspondence is undertaken in a timely and professional manner;
o Maintain regular contact with prospective PhD students to ensure timely conversion to
registered students;
o Liaise with central departments as required on admissions matters.

• Support of the PGR programme, including:
o Provide advice and information to current PGR students (referring any complex queries
as required);
o Maintain and update departmental information and documentation including PGR files
and records;
o Support the arrangement of PGR events, including the PhD presentation day and
induction;
o Liaise with the Graduate Research Office on the progress of students;
o Update and maintain the PGR MOLE site and web pages;

Research Events

• Support the planning, organisation and promotion of seminars, conferences and workshops,
including arranging venues, travel and accommodation, and catering.
• Use MyPurchase and other University systems to requisition catering, printing, etc.
• Liaise with external speakers and attendees.
• Promotion of events, through websites and social media
Research Centres and Groups
• Provide support for the Department’s research centres and clusters, including provision of dayJob

to-day administrative support.
• Responsibility for organisation of meetings and events for research centres and clusters.
• Oversee updates to webpages and social media accounts.
• Update publications on academic staff webpages.
