Summary:

You will participate and develop in the exciting Donald Heath pulmonary hypertension research programme. This multi-disciplinary programme combining clinicians and clinician scientists with biologists, physicists and engineers is based at the University of Sheffield and Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. As part of this post you will undertake research towards a PhD, and conduct two clinical sessions per week in the Sheffield Pulmonary Vascular Disease Unit within the Respiratory Medicine Research Directorate at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The clinical sessions will be organised in a mutually agreeable time to suit the best needs of both the Pulmonary Vascular Clinical Service and your research project. Suggested supervisors and project areas are listed below and application should be submitted in collaboration with a proposed supervisor.

All applications will be considered but priority project areas are Assessment of Magnetic Resonance Imaging during exercise and vasodilator challenge in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical

 The clinical duties will include the equivalent of 2 NHS Sessions per week in the Sheffield Pulmonary Vascular Disease Unit, under the supervision of Professor David Kiely. The schedule will be agreed by all parties.

Research

 Plan, develop, construct and refine existing and new experimental systems, apparatus, or equipment according to specification for research related purposes.

 Carry out project-specific work.

 Research, collate, organise and edit material for inclusion in reports, presentations and other documents.

 Attend training courses as required.

 Record and analyse data for discussion with the project group.

 Present results of research data in oral and written forms to the research group and wider department. Attend project, laboratory and consortium meetings.

 Contribute to the presentation and publication of results.

 Liaise with project partners including NHS and Industry partners as required.

 Read academic papers and attend research seminars to keep abreast of developments.

 Participate in training where required for the project.

 Ensure all equipment stock levels are maintained.

 Ensure patient confidentiality and that all patient records are secure when not in use.
