Engineering Technician (Teaching) in Thermodynamics

University of Sheffield

Sheffield, United Kingdom

The Faculty of Engineering at The University of Sheffield is one of the biggest and best in the United Kingdom, and is renowned for its excellence in teaching and world class research.

The Diamond is the latest teaching facility in the centre of the city campus. It is home to a team of professional teaching staff and technicians who deliver learning experiences across a wide range of engineering subjects. Our engineering teaching
laboratories contain over £10m of industry standard equipment, giving our students unprecedented access to real-life practical and professional engineering skills. This new resource is one of the best equipped teaching facilities in the UK.

We are expanding our activities in the Thermodynamics laboratory, which houses a range of apparatus based on industrial equipment such as compressors, heat exchangers and engines to give our students the best possible learning experience.
We are looking for someone to join a highly skilled team in assisting with practical classes and the delivery of teaching sessions. You will also be responsible for all aspects of ensuring that the laboratory operations run smoothly, from equipment maintenance, housekeeping and purchasing, to record keeping and health and safety activities.

We offer exceptional opportunities to develop your professional skills and knowledge, and a supportive environment in which to explore, develop and deliver world-class learning and teaching. Our teaching is based on practical activities, and even if you
don’t consider yourself a professional teacher, if you have the right skills, knowledge and experience, coupled with a desire to develop the next generation of engineers, you could be the perfect fit for our team.

You should have relevant experience in an engineering or science subject, with a background in an industrial sector. Experience of health and safety procedures in a workshop or production environment coupled with an up to date knowledge of the relevant regulation and legislation is also key. You should feel confident and comfortable communicating with large groups of people, and have the ability to work well alongside a team. The ability to prioritise your workload in order to meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is also essential.
