Compliance Manager

Role Purpose
Reporting directly to the Head of Global Engineering Integration, the Compliance Manager will have the responsibility to ensure that the Technology business and Engineering, Technology & Quality (ETQ) function has systems & processes deployed to enable people, documents, knowledge and other assets to be move globally whilst respecting Intellectual Property (IP) transfer, tax and export control requirements.
The Compliance Manager will ensure ETQ personnel are appropriately trained to ensure the successful implementation of the export compliance requirements including the development of the Technology Control Plans (TCP) at facility and site levels.

The Compliance Manager will provide an oversight and guidance globally for ETQ and will work closely with other deployed functions/departments including Export Control, Finance, IP & HR.

This role is a global role and although it is nominally based in Bristol the role will require International travel.

Key Responsibilities
The organisational requirements of this global role will require the Compliance Manager (CM) to make sure ETQ remains compliant in respect to IP transfer, tax and export requirements whilst enabling the business to leverage global knowledge and capability. The CM will ensure and assist the appropriate ETQ personnel have completed the mandatory compliance training and remain current; in addition the CM will provide systems/processes to support global compliance.

The CM will ensure:

The implementation of export compliance requirements across ETQ
IP and tax considerations are clearly understood, documented, communicated and available, and a process is in place for applying these considerations to the movement of people, documents, knowledge and other assets
The provision for segregation and protection from disclosure of controlled data
Mandatory training is available and carried out for ETQ personnel
A process is place for identifying any breaches in global compliance and that these are reported and actioned expeditiously
A Continuous Improvement (CI) process is in place and operational in ETQ
Support is provided to Export Control Officers as required for licence applications
Technology and documentation is classified as required.
Identification and communication of best practice across the global organisation
Assistance in the development of the organisation through identification of requirements and recruitment of teams as required
Qualifications / Experience / Skills

The candidate will have experience as a manager or compliance officer leader in an aerospace organisation and be conversant with the Engineering & Technology processes, standard work and an awareness of the construction and operation of airframe and engine systems.

Due to the personal development aspects of the role, the Compliance Manager must possess demonstrable people and communication skills and be prepared to travel when appropriate to meet the business needs

Experience of implementing LEAN in a similar environment

Experience in a similar position in a relevant discipline would be advantageous


Experience of working in a large global Aerospace company (Civil & Military Experience)

A working knowledge of export control regulations

Knowledge of appropriate business software systems and processes associated with this role globally

Experience of working within and leading teams, directly and/or as part of a matrix organisation.

Principle Accountabilities

The development of key requirements for training and systems to enable the current and future delivery of global compliance. In addition the development of processes and procedures is central to the role as part of Continuous Improvement initiatives.

Principle Interfaces

The Compliance Manager is required to maintain regular interfaces across the ETQ, organisation, the Export Control, tax IP, Global Mobility, and HR organisations.

Good organisational skills (personal and inter-personal)

A working knowledge of the industries toolsets, process and methods

Availability to travel both nationally and internationally

Ability to liaise with functional experts such as Export Control Officers (ECO’s), tax, IP, and HR, and the Global ETQ organisation on the implementation of the Compliant Globalisation project


Essential: Engineering background

Desirable: Membership to a higher professional body such as the Institute of Export and International Trade
