Infrastructure Analyst

Role Purpose
The position will involve all aspects of infrastructure and associated support activities working in a small, flexible and highly motivated team across the Wheels & Structures Telford plant. The Infrastructure Analyst will work closely with the Wheels & Structures Global Infrastructure team to provide support to other Wheels & Structures locations.

Analysts in this role serve as technical experts, participating in or overseeing a variety of analytical and technical assignments. These include:

Problem diagnosis and solutions documentation.

Implementation, administration, support, and maintenance of a variety of hardware, software, and network products.

The role is split between providing day-to-day operational support for existing infrastructure services and users of those services, and projects leading to the development and deployment of new infrastructure services. It will also include some desktop support on an ad-hoc basis.

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities in the role include but are not limited to:

-Ability to provide operational support for existing infrastructure across the Telford site. Including but not limited to: Servers (HP/Dell), SAN, VM, IBM AS/400, Exchange (2003/2010), SQL (2008/2012), DNS/DHCP/WINS, LAN (Cisco/HP), Wi-Fi (Cisco WLC and AP’s), Antivirus (McAfee), Backups, WSUS, Citrix, blown fibre, cat-5/6 structured cabling, PBX and telephony management.
- Design, implementation, support, monitoring and maintenance of infrastructure and services, including but not limited to server and storage hardware, LAN and WAN services, telephony services, electrical supply (UPS, Generator), cooling and fire suppressant systems and ensuring availability of infrastructure services.
Serve as a liaison between other technical staff, management, users, and vendors regarding service requests, usage, standards, security, and other technical matters.

- Provide subject matter expertise, advice and consultancy for assigned technology and infrastructure systems.

- Evaluate infrastructure services equipment and software for purchase; recommend new configurations, provide training or arranges for vendor training for system users. Develop cost estimates and make recommendations for systems development and upgrades to existing systems.

- Collaborate on, or lead IT infrastructure projects through to successful implementation and hand over to operational support.

- Fire Prevention duties to be performed in line with the Fire Prevention Strategy Document (Server patching/preventative maintenance on all systems).
Ability to provide a level of desktop support as needed, including but not limited to:

- Installation and configuration of new IT equipment.

- Diagnosing and resolving software and hardware incidents, including Dell laptops and desktops, operating systems (Windows XP/7/10), Microsoft Office 2010 and a range of other software applications.

- Resolving incidents with printers, copiers and scanners.

- Configuration and support of company mobile devices which includes iPhones, iPads and Android.

- Work alongside the Wheels & Structures Global Infrastructure team where necessary.

- Ability to effectively deliver oral and written reports and presentations.
- Prepare clear and concise documentation.
- Issue resolution experience at all business levels especially data inconsistencies and ensuring root cause resolution.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills

- Educated at least to “A” level standard or equivelant with a recognised IT qualification at this level or above.Together with at least 5 GCSE’s at Grade “C” or above including English and Mathematics.
- Knowledge of network environments and concepts such as Active Directory, TCP/IP, DHCP and DNS.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Server technology and infrastructure platforms including but not limited to: Windows server operating systems, messaging (Exchange) database (SQL), Firewalls, and Citrix.
- Knowledge of technical analysis, implementation, configuration, and upgrading of network infrastructure consisting of but not limited to: Cisco network LAN, WAN equipment and Cisco Wireless Infrastructure.
- Knowledge of technical analysis, implementation, configuration, and upgrading of virtualised server infrastructure.
Knowledge of PC’s, laptops and other hardware, Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent organisational, analytical and problem solving skills.
