Project Engineer

Role Purpose
This role is open only to Filton permanent employees and temporary employees engaged with GKN Filton.


Working with the Engineering Group Leader and Technical Development manager; This role is responsible for the management of introducing new plant and equipment into the Business from concept, Capital document creation, management of installation through to industrial handover to the operations teams.

Key Responsibilities
The introduction of new products/machine tools into the business

· To identify and promote new technologies to the business and the potential implication of the new technologies as the TRL of the technology approachesmaturity.

· Where required to identify, justify and monitor CAPEX spend within the business

· To respond to the latest business challenges whether planned or unplanned, with cost

effective and proven solutions

· Create and maintain a safe working environment for all Components business personnel, external suppliers and its visitors.

· Ensure that cost reduction/improvement projects and design/build teams are adequately

supported with the correct resources to allow timely achievement of their objectives.

Ensure that the latest manufacturing systems technology, methodology and processes are

evaluated and improvements introduced across the business allowing the business to grow

and bid for new work in a cost effective manner.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills
An extensive knowledge of the machine tool indusrty is desirable

· Comprehensive knowledge of the financial effects to the business of strategic and tactical

decisions to allow for the delivery of parts to the customer

· Comprehensive engineering knowledge to understand current manufacturing techniques and their limitations

· Knowledge of technology and its availability / maturity for the definition of the business future state

· Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques for the machining and processing of

components

· Knowledge of current and future machining techniques for aerospace materials including nonmetallic components

· Understanding of the business processes, especially CAPEX to generate the detailed

information required for investment in the business

· Two way communication with suppliers and technical centres / universities to extract data anddevelop solutions to existing problems and potential risks to the business

· Excellent personal attributes to communicate to all levels of the business

· Ability to lead and sell new technology development to the all levels of the business

· Ability to visualise the future requirements of the business to achieve the long term successof the business
