Warranty Director (m/f)


Lohmar, Germany

Role Purpose
Ensure the establishment and implementation of a warranty management process applied consistently across the product stream to meet business objectives. This role will coordinate with cross functional team members in developing, implementing, and maintaining the product stream warranty process, providing benchmarking data and sharing performance data across the business.

Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive cross functional warranty management process according to CQI-14, VDA, IATF and customer requirements to meet business objectives.
Develop, agree and support the deployment of the global warranty strategy within the product stream.
Lead and manage the product stream warranty concern management and prevention according to defined targets.
Establish a process to determine/verify in warranty contracts the warranty requirements and the potential financial impact prior to the acceptance of customer terms and conditions; highlight any extraordinary liability risk as necessary.
Develop strong working relationships with customers and support contract review to ensure customer specific requirements are transferred to program team members, operations and suppliers.
Ensure alignment between warranty data and customer technical factors and prepare negotiation arguments to reduce GKN responsibility where the data supports it.
Develop and maintain a process to proactively manage customer’s “Technical Acceptance Factor” for warranty.
Define and agree a warranty budget, track variances vs reality, define action plans to tackle potential deviations, predict future costs and recommend potential accruals as necessary.
Collaborate and liaise with cross functional team members to target warranty reduction. Identify opportunities to reduce warranty costs and support their implementation.
Support the plants on the resolution of the extraordinary warranty projects:
Define action plan to assure a successful resolution.
Assist in the introduction of improvements to solve issues in the field.
Control the efficiency of the implemented improvements, also on costs.
Coordinate with the Account Teams on the warranty negotiations with the customer.
Monitor, analyse, and collate warranty data from the customer and assure early escalation in case of significant warranty cost issues and high quantity of vehicles affected.
Define the content and support the implementation of a warning IT system/database to monitor warranty costs in the field, detect warranty peaks at an early stage and record lessons learned.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills
Minimum 3 years’ experience in quality engineering environment

Extensive training in quality engineering practices

Training in standards for Quality Management Systems (including ISO/TS 16949, VDA, EFQM, etc)

Knowledge of engineering, finance, manufacturing and product launch processes

Application of QMS tools and techniques (APQP,FMEA, inspection planning, SPC)

Good negotiation, facilitation, and presentation skills
