Plant Director

Role Purpose

The Plant Director is responsible for the management, direction and coordination of manufacturing operations to meet customer requirements, as well as GKN regional and global programs within the plant while executing the production objectives for safety, quality, delivery and cost. The Alamance plant is a Tier 2 automotive plant with complex manufacturing including machining, induction hardening, sub-assembly, etc. across 63 production cells that produces approximately 30 million finished parts annually across several hundred unique part numbers shipping primarily to internal line company facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Drives the GKN Values within the organization while being a role model for your employees and peers.
Ensures that environmental, health, safety and other plant regulations are in compliance with internal and external standards while promoting a safe working culture.

Effective management of efficient day-to-day operations in terms of employees, safety, customer satisfaction and eliminating waste.

Champion Diversity & Inclusion in alignment with Company guidelines.

Leadership improvement of operational performance, ensuring a culture of continuous improvement (CI), teaching, and developing others in the Lean and CI tools

Develop, execute and maintain conformance to plant wide budgetary targets and limitations.

Optimization of plant ROIC, ensuring assets are used efficiently and recommending the addition of new assets where necessary to support new product implementation.

Motivate all levels of employees in the facility for maximum efficiency and productivity.

Supports the implementation of GKN policies, procedures and programs consistent with company objectives and administers such policies for facility operations.

Develop manufacturing plan to support the timely launch of new cells and products.

Drive and support where possible the implementation of best-in-class manufacturing processes (cell manufacturing methods and tooling strategies) to support facility goals and objectives.

Participate in cross-facility/Cluster initiatives to determine company-wide best practices and the improvement of business processes.

Ensure alignment between sister facilities for Quality, EH&S, Supply Chain, and Lean/Continuous Improvement, and HR areas.

Responsibility for maintaining a non-union environment while providing a great working culture.

Ensure the proper knowledge transfer within the operations.

As a business leader, lead the activities of staff to satisfy customer requirement for quality, quantity, safety, delivery, and service.

Build and maintain strong relationships with commercial account teams and engineering across the division to drive strategic goals.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills
Formal qualifications required:

B.S. Degree in Business Administration, Engineering or related degree. Masters strongly preferred.

Previous experience required:

At least 15 years’ experience in manufacturing, with at least 10 years of experience in a multi-function leadership role.
Experience in a TS 16949 or QHSAS 18000 and ISO 14000 Environment required.
Solid background in manufacturing systems. QAD (MFG.PRO) experience preferred.
Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Lean Enterprise experience.
Proven ability to manage projects in support of business objectives to include the development of project plans, effective utilization of resources and development of metrics to measure and report on results.
Effective communication and influencing skills to ensure compliance with company policies and practices.
Must be skilled at and demonstrate the ability to support and encourage change management initiatives.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and executive presence while being able to demonstrate the ability to establish effective working relationships and credibility with all levels of the internal organization and external client organizations
Demonstrated balance between appropriate levels of customer service and running a lean, cost-efficient organization results
Self-directed and self-motivated to work in a fast paced business while multi-tasking daily to achieve objectives and provide guidance to staff
