Technical Director

Job Summary
AECOM are currently recruiting for a Technical Director to lead our Transmission & Distribution division in Ireland, the position will be based in our offices in Dun Laoghaire.

Our transmission and distribution sector primarily focus is the management, design and supervision of electrical power projects in both transmission and distribution, with a primary focus on transmission projects, including the major Ireland transmission system operators. The unit also provides electrical engineering services to a wide range of renewables, industrial, property and other development projects including the mission critical remit.

We currently offer T&D services such as FEED, Project Management, Network Studies and Substation Design from our office in Dun Laoghaire with similar offices in Edinburgh, Newcastle, London and Bristol. The successful Technical Director will have direct management responsibility for the current team of 8 Engineers.

In addition to the experience of managing a team of Engineers within the sector, the Technical Director will be responsible for expanding both the team and the range of services being offered in Ireland. It is the ambition of the Company to not only expand the T&D team but also expand the range of services being offered in Ireland to reflect a broader range of power sector services including in the renewable generation, thermal generation and other associated sectors such as Smart Grids and storage technologies. The successful Technical Director will be able to demonstrate experience of working with a broad range of power sector Clients in Ireland, including companies such as EirGrid, SONI, Bord na Mona and the major data centre developers.
The successful Technical Director will be required to manage a range of multi-disciplinary projects in the power sector. Responsibilities will include the client interface, preparation of bids and proposals, and then managing the delivery of the projects in accordance with the company's quality, safety and environmental procedures.

This is a great opportunity to develop your own business within a business, the successful Electrical Engineer will be involved in all aspects of a project from leading a bid and tender through to the delivery of projects as the Lead Engineer or Project Manager; skill sets that are all required in your future progression in the Company.

The ideal candidate would have a recognised technical specialism in the high voltage transmission and distribution sector , where AECOM is particularly looking for skills in Distribution System Engineering, Protection Systems & Control or Electricity Market and Tariffs.

Minimum Requirements
BSc /BEng Engineering (Hons) (Electrical Engineering preferred but not essential)

Chartered Engineer status

Have a high profile in the Irish power sector

Experience in design project management

Strong knowledge of the local Power marketplace in Ireland, particularly the T&D market.

New build power or substation Design or Construction experience

Ability to communicate up to board level both at AECOM and with our client base

Experience of medium and high voltage projects including feasibility studies, concept design, detailed design, modelling, site supervision, testing and acceptance is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the above, any of the additional experience is welcomed; High voltage cables, Protection and Control, HVDC applications, Power system analysis (DIgSILENT, PSSe, EDSA, CDEGS, EMTP, CAPE, ASPEN etc), Regulation of electricity networks and renewable generation, thermal power generation.
