Software Development Engineer

Amazon Development Centre London is seeking a Software Development Engineer (SDE) to join the Customer Service Engineering team. The SDE will be a core contributor and help the team to innovate, automate, and design systems that make it easier and faster for Amazon Video to support its distribution on thousands of devices. As a SDE you will lead the technical delivery of new cutting edge, self-service tools that streamline support for Game Consoles, Set Top Boxes and SmartTVs that stream Amazon Video content and you will also be responsible for maintaining code bases for some of the world’s most popular devices.

A successful candidate will have a technical background in delivering customer-facing experiences, a strong technical ability, excellent organizational skills, great communication skills, a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment, high creativity, great analytical reasoning skills, and, of course, a passion for TV and film. The role is based in the London Development Centre and will provide opportunity to travel to key stakeholder sites in Africa, America, Asia and Europe.

· Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
· Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design.
· Highly proficient in at least one of Java, C++, C#, Objective-C.
· Experience with one or more of JavaScript, Ruby, Perl, Python.
· Evidence of working with algorithms, data-structures, efficiency, concurrency, performance optimization.
· Evidence of working with object-oriented development and design patterns.
· OS fundamentals and systems architecture.
· Cloud computing, large-scale and high-availability distributed architecture.
· Experience working in an Agile environment.
· Strong analytical and excellent problem solving skills.
· Strong written and verbal English communications skills.


· Linux/UNIX including command-line tools and scripting.
· Web development (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript).
· Databases including SQL, noSQL, schema design and optimization.
· Big data, machine learning and other statistical analysis.
· Highly pragmatic; we use technology to solve real-world problems expediently.
