Research Associate / Fellow in Health Economics

University of Sheffield

Sheffield, United Kingdom

Summary: We are seeking to appoint to either Research Associate (Grade 7) or Research Fellow (Grade 8). You will support research programmes in the Section of Health Economics and Decision Science (HEDS). The research will be focused on applied cost-effectiveness analysis and methods development across a range of research projects.

The research will primarily focus on economic evaluation alongside clinical trials, but will also include decision analytic modelling in association with trial analysis and pre-trial modelling. The exact mix of work will be determined both by the needs of our work programmes and the expertise and interests of the successful candidate. Other types of research that could fit into this work programme include health state valuation and patient reported outcome measures studies, health technology assessment and decision analytic modelling.

You will contribute to the writing of research proposals and conduct analyses as part of a broad portfolio of studies. We would expect those appointed to research fellow to lead proposals. You will develop methodological work and provide associated training on those methods. You will disseminate findings in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to/and ensure wider impact with decision makers.

Applicants should have research experience in health economics, specifically relating to either cost-effectiveness analysis of patient level data or decision analytic modelling. A track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentation is desirable (essential for the Research Fellow post). You should expect to develop existing methodological research interests, complementary to those within HEDS. You will also contribute to the development and delivery of Masters level teaching, supervision of postgraduate students and the provision of other types of training. You should have a postgraduate qualification or equivalent in a numerate subject, for example, mathematics, operational research, statistics or economics. A PhD in a health related discipline would also be desirable for this post.
