Research Associate / Research Fellow in Health Economics and Decision Modelling

Summary: We are seeking to appoint to either Research Associate (Grade 7) or Research Fellow (Grade 8).

You will support research and consultancy programmes in the Section of Health Economics and Decision Science (HEDS). The work will be focused on applied cost-effectiveness analysis and health economic modelling working on a range of projects and with a range of funders including NHS organisations, government bodies and agencies, healthcare and pharmaceutical companies, and research funders nationally and internationally. This will include work as part of the ScHARR Technology Appraisal Group, which conducts analyses and reviews of submissions as part of the NICE process, modelling for, economic evaluation around clinical trials, and methods development work relating to any of those areas. The mix of work will be determined both by the needs of those work programmes and the expertise and interests of the successful candidate.

You will contribute to the writing of research and consultancy proposals and conduct analyses as part of a broad portfolio of studies. We would expect those appointed to Research Fellow to lead proposals. You may also develop methodological work and provide associated training on those methods. You will disseminate findings in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to/ ensure wider impact with decision makers.

You should have research experience in health economics and decision modelling. A track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentation is desirable (essential for Research Fellow).You should expect to develop existing methodological research interests, complementary to those within HEDS. You will also contribute to the development and delivery of Masters level teaching, supervision of postgraduate students and the provision of other types of training. You should have a Masters Degree or equivalent in a numerate subject, for example, mathematics, operational research, statistics or economics. A PhD in a health related discipline would also be desirable for this post.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design, development and writing of research and consultancy proposals for economic evaluations and methodology research.
• Perform analyses using decision modelling methods.
• Undertake statistical analysis relating to the evaluation of health technologies.
• Perform reviews of submissions to NICE as part of ScHARR-TAG.
• Work in multi-disciplinary teams.
• Disseminate research findings through publication in leading peer-reviewed health and medical journals and presenting papers at conferences.
• Prepare research documents including research reports, project updates and briefing papers.
• Liaise closely with a range of staff in the NHS and the private sector, including clinicians, NICE staff and technicians.
• Undertake methodological research in Health Economics and Decision Science. • Involvement in professional activities such as organising local research events.
• Contribute to the Section’s teaching by delivering lectures and tutorials, external short courses and developing on-line teaching materials.
• Engage in the supervision of students on Masters level courses
• Any other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post.
