Site Operations Manager - Bio Energy Technical Lead

Context

The Bioenergy Operations Manager has accountability for all bioenergy plants, within Distillation and Maturation. This includes bioenergy plants ran by 3rd parties on Diageos’s behalf. There will be a requirement for extension of duties into the wider co-products plants.
This role is a cornerstone role within Distillation and Maturation and, as such, is not rotationally mobile.
Within Distillation and Maturation there is a focus on World Class practices and the effective management of change to achieve this goal.
The sites are generally located in small communities; therefore, active involvement in local activities is important.
Statutory and Diageo regulations and management systems must be understood and complied with.

Purpose of the Role

This is a proactive role whose purpose is to ensure the efficient, economical and safe aspects of the day to day operation of Distillation and Maturation bioenergy plants and subsequent energy generation.
To positively contribute to a World Class outlook and actively support the development and successful implementation of strategies to achieve this aim.

Top Accountabilities

Actively participate in and support strategic initiatives designed to meet future business requirements.
Positively influence, support and optimise bioenergy operations at Diageo sites.
•Ensure site production satisfies or improves on budget, volume, cost and efficiency targets.
•Ensure that effluent quality discharge standards are maintained or bettered.
•Identify and monitor as appropriate performance indicators relating to efficiency of operation.
•Lead, facilitate and support process developments and changes.
•Ensure site operations comply with all statutory requirements and Diageo standards, eg Health and Safety, environmental policy, etc.
•Design and carry out in-house training and awareness programmes for managers and operators to meet development needs.
•Provide coaching and support to peers and site teams to achieve great performance standards.
•Frequent contact with Stakeholders (Operational teams) to review operational performance issues.
•Support site teams in proposing site capital expenditure plans.
•Produce and review in consultation with site teams stretching site budgets designed to achieve improved financial performance

Support the Bioenergy Manager in developing a workplace environment to enhance all employees, both as individuals and as teams, understanding of and contribution to business objectives.
Willing to initiate and participate in cross-functional communication forums to ensure company strategic aims are implemented.
Establish and maintain effective and meaningful company-wide relationships among peer group.
Ensure clear communication of all relevant site and company information.
Qualifications and Experience Required

Demonstrated an ability to meet management performance standards.
A degree in an appropriate technical discipline.
Experience of working with effluent treatment from a continuous process industry.
Experience of energy generation utilising effluents stream (i.e. Anaerobic Digestion).
Proactive in identifying opportunities to continually improve the site operations processes and prepared to actively participate in the change process.
Active in supporting systems for implementing best demonstrated practice.
