Summary:
The University is seeking five Faculty Directors of Operations to join us at an important stage in the development of the institution. As a Faculty Director, you will work alongside the Vice-President and Head of Faculty to ensure the successful performance of your Faculty in all aspects, whilst also leading the Faculty professional staff. These are significant leadership roles and provide an excellent opportunity to positively impact on the performance of the organisation in many ways.

You will be an experienced leader, have a very good honours degree or professional qualification in a related discipline, with a consistent record of leading a large and varied portfolio. The ability to shape and influence strategy, contribute across the full range of Faculty operations, run highly effective and efficient professional support services and drive an agenda of continual performance enhancement are critical. Also important is the ability to operate with confidence and agility in a complex organisation and lead large scale change.

Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Support the Vice-President and Head of Faculty in developing and delivering a Faculty strategic plan that delivers the overarching University strategy in a specific disciplinary context, and ensures its implementation and delivery in all areas of activity at Faculty level. • Provide strategic and operational advice and insight to the Vice-President and Head of Faculty on a wide range of matters including staffing, finance, resource planning and estates, and then developing and delivering associated plans.
• Play a leading role as a member the Faculty Executive Board (FEB) alongside the Vice President and Head of Faculty, the Heads of departments, academic directors and key professional service staff.
• With the Vice President and Head of Faculty, mentor and guide other members of the FEB team as they enter fixed term leadership roles.
• Play a lead role at a Faculty level in delivering on a range of University wide change activity in partnership principally with the Director of Academic Services, but also other senior Professional Service colleagues • Play an active role in key strategic and operational activities including workforce planning and resourcing requirements, budget setting for Departments and the Faculty, income planning including student recruitment and research income, human resources strategy including reward and recognition.
• Provide leadership of Faculty professional administrative and technical services to support the delivery of an outstanding student experience, teaching and world-class research, often working in partnership with central Professional Service and Faculty Directors via dual reporting in key elements of Faculty-based professional services such as those supporting research management and student recruitment.
• Ensure continuous improvement and efficiency of professional services staff and functions and lead on transformational change in these areas, in support of Faculty and University strategy.
• Provide professional and constructive challenge and advice to Heads of Department and academic Faculty Directors to support them in delivering their strategic and operational agendas.
• Provide management and coaching to departmental managers and professional staff within the Faculty and facilitate supportive collective leadership.
• Work in partnership with Professional Services leads in HR, Finance, and Planning and Insight, to ensure effective running of all matters relating to staff and students in the Faculty.
