Summary:

Are you interested in working for a world top 100 university? We have an exciting opportunity in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning for someone looking to use their research skills and knowledge to improve understanding of how blue-green infrastructure is valued and implemented in cities. You will join a large team of researchers and project partners across Europe who are working together to demonstrate how cities can improve resilience to climate change . You will be principally based in Sheffield, but also have the opportunity to engage with partners in other locations in the UK and Europe.

You will contribute to the delivery of two work packages on the BEGIN project– one on valuing blue-green infrastructure and the other on city-to-city learning. This role requires excellent qualitative and quantitative research skills, as well as high level communication, team-working and project management skills. You will have a PhD (or equivalent) in a discipline within the social or environmental sciences. Relevant research experience of working with development/regeneration professionals is desirable. You should also be able to demonstrate a track record of delivering high quality research outputs.

Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The post-holder will be responsible for all aspects of day to day planning and execution of the project activities including the following:

• Play a leading role in the planning and conduct of assigned research, both individually and jointly liaising with other members of the project team
• Conduct literature searches and undertake literature reviews in order to develop and detail appropriate analytical frameworks for use in the research.
• Prepare, arrange, conduct and record interviews and/or other data collection processes, such as questionnaires.
• Collate and analyse data drawing on identified analytical frameworks, writing up research procedures and findings in reports or draft papers. • Disseminate the outcomes of the research, for example through the preparation of academic papers and reports and presentations to practitioners.
• Attend project meetings and undertake project administration in collaboration with external partners
• Engage in personal, professional and career development, to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory. The post-holder will contribute to and support the Centre’s early career network.
• Present work at international and national conferences, at internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops to develop and enhance the research profile of Sheffield Water Centre and the University.
• Make a full and active contribution to the principles of the ‘Sheffield Academic’. These include the achievement of excellence in research and scholarly pursuits to make a genuine difference in the subject area and to the University’s achievements as a whole.
