The Machining Group is part of the AMRC with Boeing and focuses on the research, development and application of state of the art machining technologies. The group has an excellent track record of developing technology and integrating it into a shop floor environment to demonstrate financial benefit to partners. This ability to translate technological advances into bottom line savings has led to a large growth in demand from especially its aerospace partners and a growing need for skilled engineers with an interest in manufacturing. The Machining Group, Applications team have specialist project management, research and machining expertise in the Advanced machining and supporting engineering fields.

We have an exciting opportunity as a Project Coordinator within the Project Management function, where if successful you will be part of the Machining Group Applications or Research and Technology teams. You will support project teams, and work closely with new and existing partners of the AMRC. You will be involved in scoping new project work, as well as ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard, within budget and on time. Key aspects of this role will be to provide scoping and planning support to projects prior to launch. During the project lifecycle the key aspects will be the financial and status progress updates.

The successful candidate must have good IT skills, in addition to Microsoft Office and use of the internet. Expertise / knowledge in project methodology and software including Microsoft Project is desirable, but not essential. More important is to have strong communication skills allied with organisational ability and enthusiasm. The ability to discuss at any level the elements of a project including the status to partners, customers and internal stakeholders. Pragmatism and the ability to understand an issue from both your own organisation and the customers’ point of view would also be a beneficial skill.

Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Preparing project documentation e.g. cost plans, ordering, timesheets etc.
• Administration for the running and implementation of projects.
• Monitoring budgets.
• Inputting, ordering and interrogating finance data.
• Monthly invoicing.
• Timesheet checks and input to a bespoke excel based system.
• Providing administrative support for Project Managers.
• Makes presentations to management on project updates, project cycle, and expected results.
• Ensuring that projects are completed on time and in scope.
• Support and participate in project teams.
• The ability to develop skills through external or on the job training, suitable to accomplish the project tasks required.
• Present results to internal and external stakeholders at all levels in a professional and concise manner.
• Plan and carry out tasks and responsibilities over the short-medium term, with an awareness of longer term issues. Use discretion to determine priorities and resolve conflicts to allow the team to meet targets and deadlines.
• Coordinate and liaise with other members of the Machining Group over work progress.
• Support planning for short-term projects in own area, or contribute to the planning of the group.
• Plan several months in advance to meet deadlines for AMRC project reports, industrial partner deadlines and to support preparation for presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
• Working alongside the Project Managers to plan and order appropriate tooling, materials and hardware ahead of project requirement.
• Check that all hardware inventory is present and correctly assembled in advance of project requirement.
• Work alongside the Machining Shop Floor staff to enable smooth transitions of project deliveries.
• Update Project Manager with progress reports and escalation of any issues.
• Liaise with partners and suppliers when and where required to form good relationships.
