Head of Faculty Research Support (Arts and Humanities)

University of Sheffield

Sheffield, United Kingdom

We have an outstanding opportunity for you to make a genuine contribution to achieving Sheffield’s research ambitions. You will build relationships with senior research leaders, individual researchers and with professional services colleagues. This will enable you to work in partnership with them to develop and implement strategies to develop research, to ensure that researchers access the full range of support from Research Services and to co-ordinate and develop local research support. You will commit to building an understanding of, and a desire to genuinely enable, academic research activity in support of University priorities from postgraduate research students and research funding, to research outputs, to impact and IP development.

There are two core aspects to the role: • taking the lead in horizon scanning for funding and collaboration opportunities; research planning with individuals and departments; performance analysis; planning and delivering development activities; being a key contact with funders; developing and steering large or strategic bids. • co-ordinating the wider research support available to the Faculty, ensuring specific needs are understood and that they are represented across the University. You will also take the lead on some University wide research opportunities with specific funders or schemes. As a senior member of the Department and key focal point for our service users, you will display leadership for your colleagues and for researchers in the Faculty. You will bring your understanding of how to facilitate first-class research support to deliver positive outcomes and impact. You will: • have a good honours degree (or equivalent experience); • communicate in a straight-forward and appropriate way; • have the confidence to coach, advise, negotiate with and support senior leaders in delivery of strategy; • work flexibly and collaboratively; • be both customer-focussed and willing to challenge perceptions.
