Architectural Specification Consultant

Job Summary
AECOM is seeking to hire an Architectural Specification Consultant to be based in Abu Dhabi.

Job Duteis :
This is an opportunity for an experienced specification writer or architectural technician to join the Middle East Specification Consultancy team in Dubai, producing and delivering Architectural, Interior Design and Landscape based specifications for both internal AECOM projects and PCC’s external clients, on major projects in all sectors across the Middle East.
The role requires a consultant with an Architectural and Buildings background and familiarity with CSI based specifications, as well as having good attention to detail, being well organised, good research skills and being a confident communicator.
The consultant shall be based in Abu Dhabi working in a team of Architectural, MEP and Structural specification consultants, reporting to the team lead.
Assisting senior consultants in the development and delivery of project specifications for multiple projects with USD billions in construction costs, using the bespoke AECOM web enabled data base production tool.
Liaise with Structural and MEP colleagues to identify and coordinate interface issues.
When requested, consult with internal and external designers to establish their project requirements.
Understand and complete all QA/QC policies and procedures to maintain the high quality standards expected of project specifications
Work to tight project deadlines and ensure accurate and timely delivery of project specifications.
Work with senior consultants to identify and implement updates and improvements to company specification database.
Attend design meetings within and outside of the UAE, either with specification colleagues or independently.
Follow and understand industry best practice, either directly within industry or through internal training/ workshops for all aspects of construction that impact on the Specification Consulting.
Specific Skills Required :
Proactive in planning, communication and delivery of work.
Basic understanding of CSI and CAWS specifications and their use in the built environment.
Be able to demonstrate an understanding of design development and construction stages.
Confident with the ability to deal with internal and external clients, and communicate well within the specification consulting team.
Ability to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines, using excellent organisational skills and being able to prioritise, either under the guidance and instruction of senior team members or independently where required.
Technologically competent with an ability to learn new software and programs.
Basic knowledge of the building and construction industry and willingness to develop knowledge further, either independently or through internal training.
Basic understanding of architectural detailing and materials and willingness to develop knowledge further, either independently or through internal training.
Ability to use initiative and be proactive.
Ability to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility and adaptability as well as a “can do” attitude.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail and follow up; accurate typing ability in English is essential.
Professional conduct and a mature approach to all situations.
Proficient skills in Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to work as part of a small team as well as independently.

Minimum Requirements
A degree in Architecture/ Design related discipline, or a demonstration of technical knowledge in these fields.

Qualification/ certification of one of the following would be an advantage but not compulsory:
CSI’s Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certificate.
Certified Construction Specifier (CCS)
Position is for a graduate with 1-2 years industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications
The candidate should be able to demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in design or procurement process.
