Manager, Technical Program Management

Dublin, Ireland

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world leader in providing a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers hundreds of thousands of businesses in hundreds of countries around the world.

We are looking for an experienced manager to lead the expansion of our growing data center infrastructure portfolio in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region (EMEA). You will be responsible for managing a diversely located and high performing team of Technical Program Managers to deliver this infrastructure at a rapid pace.

As the manager of this team, you will own all aspects of the group’s success, including the management of a large portfolio of infrastructure projects throughout the EMEA region, developing the careers of your direct line managers and team members, managing for performance, whilst ensuring the delivery of a large portfolio of projects that is consistently on time and within budget. You will be responsible for driving process improvement and standardization across multiple locations whilst ensuring your team meets key project performance metrics.

The ideal candidate is excited about the incredible opportunity that cloud computing represents, and is passionate about delivering complex infrastructure in a hyper-growth environment where priorities can shift rapidly. The leader we are looking for will bring proven experience building, leading, managing, and mentoring project management or engineering teams. As a Senior Manager, your role will encompass managing a group of managers and their teams. At Amazon, along with technical strength, we expect our leaders to interact with internal customers, partners and suppliers, to understand our business goals, and to execute rapidly, delivering high-quality functionality.

You will be familiar with one or more AWS products, have experience of working in a complex engineering environment and will have worked as a technical project manager on increasingly complex projects. Your experience includes data center technologies like Construction, Mechanical & Electrical systems, cable plant, server, or networking, as well as familiarity with data center automation tools. You will work comfortably with teams and peers from Real Estate, Design Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Legal, Procurement and Operations to name but a few.

You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial and very busy environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done. As the manager of the team, you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make trade-offs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints.

An ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, develop functional specifications, then deliver them in a successful and timely manner is expected. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are essential to success in this role. You will clearly communicate goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to internal cross-functional and remote teams.
