Lead Design Engineer

Job Summary
AECOM is currently hiring a Lead Design Engineer who will be based in Glasgow

Responsible for leading a small team of designers and technicians undertaking designs for water mains rehabilitation and renewal projects. Provide assistance to PM’s for developing project programmes and reviewing progress. Ensure all QA requirements are met..

The post holder will be expected to take responsibility for leading a design team to ensure efficient and effective delivery of the following:
Preparation of design information for both target cost setting and construction.
Liaison with modelling engineers and construction delivery teams.
Manage, motivate & develop junior staff in preparation of design information for both target cost setting and construction. Monitor performance and complete annual performance reviews.
Checking and verification of junior staff design information and ensuring that all QA procedures are adhered to.
Liaise with key stakeholders: AIM, CSD, Leakage, Delivery, Shared Services, Fire Authorities, Roads Authorities etc.
Ensure that design information conforms to Scottish Water Standards & Specifications.
Promote H&S requirements as the minimum level expected. Exceeding requirements should be the norm. Prepare H&S documentation and review & approve documentation prepared by junior staff.
Liaise with project manager to assist with monitoring of progress & development of project programmes.

Job Duties:
The post holder should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understand the practical application of the following;
CDM 2015 and how it is applied to rehabilitation design and construction.
Design requirements of rehabilitation and replacement techniques.
Rehabilitation design at both outline and detailed levels.
Rehabilitation investigation requirements and the application of results in determining design interventions.
Build-ability and traffic management constraints of rehabilitation techniques.
Scottish Water DOMS procedures.
Stakeholder requirements
The candidate should possess excellent communication skills and expect to demonstrate, at interview, the application of these skills to the duties.
Minimum Requirements
Experience of network investigations and detailed design OR equivalent experience.

If not already in possession of the items noted below the candidate will be expected to undergo training for and obtain the following;

National Water Hygiene card
Scottish Water DOMS modules 1 - 12
CSCS card

Preferred Qualifications
Engineering Degree in relevant field.
