NDT TECHNICIAN III - INTERIM

Interim role is subject to conversion to full-time position upon full execution of job duties and responsibilities within a six months period from start date.

Perform NonDestructive Testing (NDT) in a manufacturing environment on aircraft parts and assemblies to customer and internal requirements using various NDT methods with conventional and automated equipment. The NDT Tech III is a subject matter expert in a particular process or test method. Typically certified to NDT Level 3, per NAS-410, or has special skills and additional responsibilities. Also, certified to NAS-410, Level 2 in one or more of the following NDT methods: Ultrasonic, Radiography and/or Eddy Current.

Required Qualifications:

Associate Degree of applied science in NDT, or closely related curriculum preferred, and/or a combination of 4+ years of education and relevant experience in lieu of degree. The classroom training for the applicable test method and level of certification needed must meet the minimum required per NAS-410.

4+ years work experience in the applicable NDT method(s) and manufacturing processes as a certified Level 2 is required.

U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance and site SSA requirements. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and be able to obtain a DoD government-granted security clearance. Individuals may also be subject to a background investigation to include but not limited to: criminal history, employment and education verification, drug testing, and creditworthiness.” This clearance must be maintained during employment. Preferred applicants who hold active DoD Secret Security clearance.

Additional Qualifications:

Basic English reading and writing skills. Must have good written and verbal communications skills, and be able to work independently and work effectively as a team member.

Employee must have the skills and formal training needed to become certified to NAS 410, level 3 in the applicable test method, and level 2 in radiography testing (RT) and ultrasonic testing (UT), and be able to pass an annual eye examination per the requirements of NAS 410.

Must have a thorough knowledge of NDT theory, methods and procedures, and should have knowledge of NDT technologies, computer systems and conventional and automated testing systems.

Must have good written and verbal communications skills, and be able to work independently and work effectively as a team member.

Completion of GKN Pre-Employment Training Program or equivalent required.

Must have strong Problem Solving skills.

Must be able to understand and follow the instructions, as well as communicate any problems to their supervisors.

Must be able to help aerospace engineers troubleshoot particular design issues. They must be able to help evaluate system capabilities, identify problems, formulate the right question, and then find the right answer.

Make and keep precise measurements and keep accurate records.

Must be able to take instructions and offer advice. The ability to work well with supervising engineers, other technicians, and mechanics is essential because technicians interact with people from other divisions, businesses, and customers.

Experience applying principles of mathematics for analysis, design, and troubleshooting tasks in their work.

Operating a personal computer with proficiency in related technical and specialized software. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook, etc)

Perform a wide range of physical activities, such as:

- lift up to 35 lbs vertically from floor to part sled or table

- carry up to 35 lbs a distance of 10 feet or more

- push/pull up to 180 lbs on a sled a distance of 40 feet or more

- squatting and bending to floor level

- stand or walk for extended periods of time and use stairs

- reach with arms and hands and to stoop, kneel or crouch.

- exposure to high and low temperatures

- exposure to loud noise of a machine shop environment

Key Responsibilities

Perform NDT on aircraft parts and evaluate test results by analyzing and interpreting the data in accordance with customer requirements.

Review and implement customer requirements; such as: Engineering Drawings, Process Specifications and other industry standards. Develop and maintain processes, test methodology and procedures. Understand manufacturing methods and part construction, as it relates to the NDT data.
