Games Support Engineer

DESCRIPTION

We have a customer-focussed role on offer, working with our wonderful creative and leading-edge gaming clients as a Support Engineer.
As a Support Engineer within our Customer Success team, you will help customers get an exceptional experience using our products by gaining a thorough understanding of their needs, answering detailed technical questions and providing worked examples. You will also help customers understand the broader capabilities of our products and how to use them to build a highly scalable game.

To enable you to do this, you will have a strong understanding of video game development including process and tools, and use this knowledge to bridge the gap between what our customers want to achieve, and how this can be delivered using our products.
You will work closely with some of the leading names in the video games industry and use your knowledge to not only help resolve their specific points, but also distil the generic learning from this and make it available to the wider community by writing blog/forum posts and creating tutorials.
You’ll work closely with our internal teams including:
…the Sales team to take on the ownership of new customers and provide a seamless experience
…the Customer Success leadership team to review customers’ use of our platform, suggest best practise modifications and communicate/explain new features as they are released
…the Product Management team to feed in customer feature requests
…the Product Development and Operations team to communicate and track customer-reported issues and provide forward notice of any major game launches that require extra vigilance

So, “Am I right for the job?” If you can tick yes to most of the below, then you probably are!

Good understanding of game development, ideally 2+ years of experience backed by a degree-level qualification
Good working knowledge of:
· at least one game engine – e.g. Unity/Unreal
· JavaScript or similar scripting language
· at least one object-oriented programming language – C#, Java
Good understanding of software development processes, practices and tools, including:
· Writing well-structured, commented code
· Automated unit testing
· Configuration management

An understanding of server software development, systems architecture and performance optimisation of services for scale
An understanding of technical concepts including REST, WebSockets, HTTP, HTTPS, TCP, UDP
Verbal communication – professional phone manner and ability to match the customer’s style/level of communication
Written communication – ability to write professional emails and document knowledge clearly and concisely
Natural organizer and process driven
Shows initiative at every level
Calm but positive and responsive under pressure
Ideally experience in the Gaming industry but if not, an avid interest in Games and/or Games development
Happy to travel internationally occassionally to work on site with our customers

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Leaving Certificate
Good understanding of game development
Good working knowledge of:
· at least one game engine – e.g. Unity/Unreal
· JavaScript or similar scripting language
· at least one object-oriented programming language – C#, Java
Good understanding of software development processes, practices and tools, including:
· Writing well-structured, commented code
· Automated unit testing
· Configuration management

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in Game Development or Computer Science
Ideally 2+ years experience in the Gaming industry but if not, an avid interest in Games and/or Games development
An understanding of server software development, systems architecture and performance optimisation of services for scale
An understanding of technical concepts including REST, WebSockets, HTTP, HTTPS, TCP, UDP
Happy to travel internationally occasionally to work on site with our customers.
