Software Development Manager – Speech and Language Technology

The Speech and Language Technology team aims to create a delightful experience for Amazon’s customers by making Alexa understand any spoken request quickly and accurately.

As a Software Development Manager at Amazon Alexa, you will build and lead a team of software developers, to design and build software components and systems that let Alexa learn from data more quickly. You and your team will collaborate closely with experts in machine learning and human language technology, and contribute to advancing the state-of-the-art in human language understanding systems. A background in speech and language technology is not required for this role. We require creative engineering balanced with high quality and customer focus. Your direct responsibilities will include:
· Direct management of Engineers
· Project management for software within the team
· Strategic planning
· Management of resources across teams

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or comparable vocational training
· Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life-cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing and operations
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
· 7+ years of relevant software engineering experience
· 2+ years of people management experience


· Experience with Agile/Scrum methods
· Extensive experience with Python
· Experience with any of the following fields: automatic speech recognition, natural language understanding, machine translation, machine learning, data mining, computer simulations in science and Engineering, high-performance/high-throughput computing.
