Assistant Faculty Finance Manager

We are looking to recruit a proactive and confident individual to join our Faculty Finance Team. The primary focus of the role will be to support the Faculty Finance Manager in managing the financial affairs of the Faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of financial management and reporting for a number of assigned academic areas. Their main duties will include budgetary control and reporting, forecasting, costing and pricing, business planning and the development of improved working relationships and practices. The post-holder will provide direct line management to a section of the Faculty Finance Team.

Applicants will need to demonstrate strong accountancy skills and be a qualified or part qualified CCAB accountant (or hold other relevant professional qualification/equivalent experience) with a proven track record of outstanding service delivery.

The successful candidate should have experience of setting high standards of financial performance with the ability to develop strong collaborative working relationships. Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and
leadership skills are essential.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Planning
• Contribute to the implementation for the overall strategic plan (academic plan) for the Faculty together with the provision of information that leads to the formulation of the Faculty’s 5 year financial plan.
• Work with departments to provide finance related support and information to the Head of Faculty Finance for the Faculty to help them ensure that the Faculty’s financial plan is sustainable and financial risks are identified, understood and managed.
• Advise the Head of Faculty Finance for the Faculty of the financial implications of strategic and operational decisions to ensure that the Faculty maintains a strong financial position.
• Provide financial information and advice to the Head of Faculty Finance for the Faculty in relation to new initiatives including contributing to the process of investment and project appraisal within the Faculty, co-ordinating with colleagues in the Department of Finance where appropriate.
• Engage proactively with the Faculty and colleagues in both the Department of Finance and the Faculty to support the embedding of full economic costing within the Faculty and help ensure that pricing is appropriate to maintain financial sustainability.
University Activities
• As a member of the Faculty, communicating key issues relating to financial planning and operation, exchanging ideas and best practice, developing relationships within the Faculty and contributing to the implementation of financial strategies and policies.
• Active contribution toward embedding the University’s financial system within the Faculty by working with the Head of Faculty Finance for the Faculty to facilitate its effective operation, encouraging benefits realisation, sharing best practice, and providing a range of training opportunities for staff e.g. uBASE (SAP), URMS.
• Deputise for the Head of Faculty Finance in their absence.
Financial Performance
• Assist the Head of Faculty Finance for the Faculty in gaining an overall view of core and project finance for the Faculty. Contribute to the financial reporting, monitoring, budgeting and forecasting on a monthly and quarterly basis and as required. Analysis and explanation of variances against budget with recommendations for action where appropriate.
