Summary: We have a fantastic opportunity at the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre for someone with a passion for making improvements, looking to use their skills in machining and metrology to make an impact on the nuclear industry. We are looking for an enthusiastic Machine Tool Technician to join one of our project teams at the Nuclear AMRC. As an Advanced Machine Tool Technician, you will provide support to the Nuclear Machining and Metrology Group by providing specialist expertise in the operation, setting and on machine programming of 5-axis mill-turn machining centres and large horizontal boring mills. In particular, you will be required to work on multi-task machines. Workpiece materials will typically be plain carbon steels, stainless steels and nickel alloys and the workpieces are generally large, heavy and high value. You will deal with batch sizes which tend to be single component or very low, and the emphasis is on the right-first-time manufacture, minimisation of process risks, single setup machining and on-machine verification with experimentation often performed on test coupons. The Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (Nuclear AMRC), is a collaboration of academic and industrial partners from across the nuclear supply chain, with the mission of helping UK manufacturers win work at home and worldwide. Our applied manufacturing research is underpinned by the nuclear and materials technology expertise of The University of Manchester Dalton Nuclear Institute. You will have: • a qualification to Ordinary National Certificate/ Higher National Certificate level or have equivalent relevant experience. • significant post apprenticeship experience of operating 5-axis or 4+1 axis Computer Numerical Control machine tools including multi-task machining centres. • experience of lifting and slinging component and tooling using overhead cranes. • ability to work effectively within a skilled team.
