In recognition of International Women's Day (IWD), and in line with its commitment to support the health needs of women through every stage of life, Theramex invited everyone to join the company in its efforts to inspire inclusion in the workplace.

As part of an inspiring interview, Director of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion for the Terrence Higgins Trust, Glenda Bonde, shed some light on the vital role of inclusivity within the workplace and how this can relate to enhancing women's health advocacy.

Ensuring a focus on employee well-being

Glenda discussed how an inclusive and diverse workplace can contribute to the overall well-being and health advocacy for all women.

"We can't be talking about advocating for our services if we are not enabling our own staff to feel like they belong, to feel like they're included within the workplace itself. So ensuring that their well-being is centered," explained Glenda.

"Different experiences encounter that because even within the context of women's health, the experiences of how women experience health inequalities is very, very stark, and the people who sit at the intersections of race and ethnicity, and being a woman, particularly when it comes to women's health, the outcomes around that are quite poor. So acknowledging that for our own staff is an important thing, but, equally, that means that when we're advocating for our own, for the services that we work with, for the patients that we work with, it's also being mindful of the intersectionality of the different women that we're working with, and ensuring that all different voices are heard," she said.

Importance of an intersectional approach to gender equality

Reflecting on the topic further, Glenda commented: “Sometimes when we're talking about gender and equality, for example, it's gender inequality from a very Eurocentric perspective, ignoring the other nuances around disability and mental health, ethnicity, race, and everything else.”

Glenda also emphasized the importance of taking an intersectional approach to addressing inclusion in the workplace.
