Harriet Taylor is a Capgemini Senior Integration Architect, driving change through technological innovations that create business opportunities. Architects are at the heart of Capgemini, shaping and translating business and IT strategies and needs into realizable, sustainable technology solutions.

Harriet discusses why she believes the learning, personal development, and career progression opportunities are the best thing about working with Capgemini.

Tell us about your role. What does a day in your life at Capgemini look like?

I am currently working as the lead architect on my account. I translate business requirements into designs, create specification and technical documents, guide and support multiple development teams, and ensure technical standards are being met. Yesterday I was working alongside a client to understand a set of requirements, and today I am working on the design and also conducting several code reviews in preparation for an end-of-sprint demo. I also learnt a few new Kubernetes commands which will come in handy in the future. Tomorrow I will be attending a few meetings to discuss and prioritize our pipeline. I try to learn something new every day.

What’s the best thing about working at Capgemini?

I have to say the learning, development and career progression opportunities are the best thing about working with Capgemini. Capgemini provides many great opportunities that enable you to progress your career the way you want. I am part of the Future Leaders Cohort, a program designed to train certain individuals to become the leaders of Capgemini in the future and play a pivotal role in the company’s growth. I am also part of the Women on Boards program. Both are fantastic opportunities for personal development.

What makes you proud to work at Capgemini?

I can work on innovative technology solutions with talented colleagues. We inspire and motivate each other and always embrace new challenges. There is a real sense of camaraderie; whenever I face an issue there is someone to help. Capgemini provides a really strong support network.

How are you working towards the future you want?

I hope to continue learning new skills each day and grow as an architect. I also plan to get involved with more community activities and personal development opportunities. I am active in the Capgemini Women’s Network and facilitate a mentoring circle. I also mentor and coach several colleagues and hope to continue so others can benefit from the skills and experience I’ve gained. Right now, I’m working towards achieving Capgemini’s Senior Architect Certification and hope to achieve several more certifications soon. I want to be an inspirational role model to young women interested in pursuing technical career paths.

What advice would you give to someone joining Capgemini?

Reach out to your colleagues and start building your network. If you have an issue or want advice, just reach out and there will always be someone to help. Embrace every opportunity for personal development and do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.
