Amazons Lauren shortlisted for Women in Technology Awards

Amazon's Lauren shortlisted for Women in Technology Awards

 October 11, 2017

Lauren Gemmell, Software Development Manager based in Amazon's Edinburgh Development Centre, has been selected as a finalist for the Inspirational Women in Leadership category in the Scotland Women in Technology Awards. The awards are a celebration of women and the companies and networks around them, who are achieving success in the Scottish technology industry and supporting gender diversity.

Lauren is an excellent STEM ambassador for women

As a leader in her field, Lauren plays a valuable role in the progression of women in technology at Amazon, and outside of work supports various community initiatives that foster diversity in the tech industry. Lauren currently heads up the Amazon Women in Engineering (AWE) group at Amazon's Edinburgh Development Centre, an internal group that supports female engineers with mentoring, networking and identifying new opportunities in the business. She has also been instrumental with the Amazon Early Insights Scheme, a community outreach programme in Scotland which aims to build confidence in the technical skills of the participants, and encourage a career in the field of technology.

“I love that the Scotland Women in Technology Awards shine a spotlight on such an important issue and highlight many of the wonderful role models we have! I am proud to be recognised for the AWE network that we built within our Edinburgh Development Centre, and the amazing things that this group has achieved. In particular our work on mentoring and growing female engineering talent in universities within Scotland and beyond.”

A panel of independent judges will convene in October to decide on the winner, which will be announced at an Awards Dinner on Thursday 26th October 2017 at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow. Good luck Lauren!
