Quality Specialist Klara has embraced her life at Amazon

 November 12, 2018

Klara Poulova is a Quality Specialist, Buyer Risk Investigations at Amazon Prague. Klara was a new graduate of politics and economics with no previous corporate experience so, when she started at Amazon, it was a completely new direction for her.

Connecting with Amazon customers

"I work as a quality specialist for buyer and seller functions. We analyse defects and support our operations to deliver on cyber standards for our customers," says Klara. "I'd say most customers don't know how many processes and people are in place to protect them. Knowing that I'm part of a team keeping them safe behind the scenes definitely gives me a great sense of satisfaction."

Klara's first day at Amazon on the floor stopping her first order was a really rewarding experience, particularly because she was able to instantly connect with that customer. "That positive outcome was awesome," says Klara.

Discovering a new kind of company culture

"When I walked in the door I really thought I would find your average kind of corporate job - formal, hierarchical, very rigid. But what has really surprised me from the beginning is the sorts of mindsets and the informal company culture," observes Klara.

Encouraging a diverse workforce

"We are also really diverse here. When I started as quality specialist the Quality Assurance team was brand new but since then we've grown and it was great to witness the evolution of the team," comments Klara. There are over 40 nationalities working in Amazon Prague and it also works globally 24/7. Klara loves connecting with her colleagues around the world from Costa Rica to China.

"We're always encouraged to bring our authentic selves to work," says Klara. "I'm actually part of the Glamazon Network which supports LGBT+ Amazonians globally. I love getting together with my colleagues and helping to organize initiatives like Amazon's participation in Prague Pride. It's great to have a sense of community and belonging at work."

Maintaining a work/life balance

Klara believes the work life balance at Amazon is really positive. Klara is able to work from home a few days a month which allows her to travel out of Prague and visit her family in South Korea. Other than that, Klara loves spending time time wandering around Prague - going to concerts, discovering new cafes or just hanging out in parks with amazing views.

"I definitely learn to think bigger at work but also outside of it," adds Klara. "No one ever really knows where they path is going to lead them but it's been an incredible journey with Amazon so far and I'm looking forward to see where it will take me."
