Emma Fletcher is a Business Development Manager for Diageo Australia. She shares what it's like to work for the company, why she loves working for the company and how she has developed her skills and progressed in her career in sales with support from Diageo.

Connecting with the people and culture

Emma says there are a few reasons she was initially drawn to Diageo but the most important one was the people and the culture. "I felt an instant connection and I still feel that connection today. It's what gets me out of bed in the morning."

Never a boring moment

For Emma, the great thing about her job is that no two days are the same working sales at Diageo. So what does her day-to-day life look like? Emma explains that she normally spends about an hour in the morning planning and preparing for her sales calls. She then checks in with her line manager and gets on the road.

Emma's day is busy but varied: she visits around seven to eight customers throughout the day, which includes bottleshops, pubs and bars. In the afternoon she follows up on any orders that came throughout the day and puts together things like promotional programs for her customers.

Receiving professional support

Above all, Diageo has made sure that Emma has received support, guidance and formal training throughout her career.

"Before I started my job search I knew that I wanted to work for a company that would provide me with a really great foundation to my career," adds Emma. "I knew nothing about sales when I started at Diageo but I received a combination of on-the-job training and formal workshops as well and that has ensured that I feel really supported in my role and it's enabled me to succeed and I continue to succeed because of it."
