Schneider Electric's Joan makes a difference through mission trips

 August 13, 2019

Every summer, Joan Soong, a Schneider Electric employee from Singapore, volunteers for overseas mission trips with her family. For Schneider Electric, Joan exemplifies what it means to have a meaningful purpose.

Working at Schneider Electric to create a more sustainable world

Joan works at Schneider Electric as a Global Vice President for Executive Recruitment. She shares her journey to discovering her meaningful purpose and how this has made her proud to work at Schneider Electric.

"Every year I volunteer for overseas mission trips with my family. The annual ritual started in 2015 when I went to Phnom Voar Valley, a small village in Cambodia to build a playground for the children. The task seemed impossible as we had few resources and only seven days to build it," she explains. "But we got it done! You can't imagine how much joy that playground brought to the village."

"Since most villagers lived with no electricity, we also installed Schneider's Mobiya lamps in homes and classrooms. Their faces literally lit up. I remember being sweaty and tired, but it was one of the proudest moments for me working at Schneider Electric," she adds. "I realized what it means to have a meaningful purpose in what you do. It touches me to know that I left an imprint on that village."

"Working at Schneider Electric has also made me realize that we can all help make this world more sustainablel," says Joan.
