At Oracle Digital Amsterdam, mobility yields career ascension

For Marie-Therese Roemer, it’s clear that she needed to expand her horizons so her career could flourish. Her move to Ireland in 2015 to fill a Customer Intelligence Team position in Oracle Digital’s Dublin hub would become the first step in her rapid professional ascension. About three months later, she would be promoted to a Business Development Consultant role.

“It was intense,” Marie-Therese says about her progression. “I was lucky to have a manager who made it clear to me that if you want to be successful, you have to have visibility, you have to have a personal brand,” she adds. “Looking back, I have to say that I’m super happy that I went to Dublin; in Germany I would’ve never had the chance to go that fast up the career ladder,” she also mentions.

One year later Marie-Therese would move to Amsterdam, where she would become an Oracle Digital Prime sales representative. There she would realize the value of being a part of Oracle. “Other tech companies love to hire Oracle employees because they are trained very well; Oracle invests a lot of money into young sales professionals,” she confides. “We are the most sales-driven organization worldwide in the industry,” she points out.

Oracle woken

But Marie-Therese would also appreciate the company’s culture, which she describes as “more like in a startup,” despite Oracle not being an actual startup. “There are no boundaries between the management and the sales reps; I like our products and talking with customers about our products,” she shares. “You can do anything if you really want to; if you have an idea, say it,” she adds to illustrate the young Amsterdam hub’s work culture.

Such a culture also fosters career growth. In Marie-Therese’s case, she’s set her sights on ascending from her role as a sales rep to a management position. “There are some opportunities in which I can see myself participating,” she says. “If it’s for sales or marketing management, I’m open for it,” she affirms.
