EBRD continues support for business women

 December 01, 2016

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) hosted a “Women in Business - Opportunities for Growth” conference in Zagreb in Croatia.

The event was opened by Vedrana Jelušić Kašić, who is the EBRD’s Regional Director for Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary and the Slovak Republic.

Great business advice

The EBRD’s Women in Business programme helps women-led small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to access finance through local partner financial institutions, and to benefit from business advice from local consultants, training, mentoring and networking opportunities.

The first phase of the initiative was launched in March 2015 and to date almost 300 women entrepreneurs have been supported by the programme which is currently active in 16 countries and have so far committed over €500 million of financing to women-led SMEs, supported by over €60 million of donor funding to enable more than 10,000 women to access finance and advice to grow their businesses.

EBRD’s activities cover all areas of the economy but are especially strong in the infrastructure, corporate, financial institutions and energy sectors.

Sustainable growth via gender equality

With the belief that gender equality is key to advancing sustainable growth in their countries of operations, EBRD’s success is founded on recruiting people who share their values and are driven to make a positive impact.
