Medtronic welcomes its interns, while former interns share advice

 June 14, 2022

Through its transformative Summer Internship Program, progressive employer Medtronic builds future leaders who help the company power the extraordinary.

Welcoming a new cohort of summer interns, former Medtronic interns who now work for the company full-time offer their advice about how to make the most of the internship opportunity.

Develop relationships and build your network

Medtronic intern Anna

Engineer Anna Karos took part in the Medtronic Early Career Rotation Program.

Anna recommends that interns put themselves out there as much as possible, spending time developing relationships with both their team and within the diverse Medtronic network.

"Ask as many questions as you can and take advantage of the incredible program that you are part of," she suggests.

Be ready to make, and learn from, mistakes

Carina Hebl intern Medtronic

Carina Hebl, Associate Strategic Sourcing Specialist, advises interns to be ready to make mistakes and learn from them.

Echoing Anna, she adds: "Meet people from all over the company, not just those in your department!"

Don't be afraid to ask questions and speak up

Medtronic intern Meredith

Meredith Grula works as a Medtronic Software Product Owner in Cardiac Rhythm Management.

She reassures interns that "nerves are normal", and encourages them to "take a breath" and remember that everyone is there to help them learn.

"Everyone here is so nice, so don't ever be afraid to ask questions and speak up."

Tailor the internship experience to your goals

Medtronic internship

Medtronic Scientist Disha Mishra believes interns should take advantage of the "incredible work" they are going to be part of, and emphasizes the importance of talking to fellow interns and learning from managers to "really tailor this experience to your goals".

"Good luck!" she says.

Be curious and ask questions

Medtronic interns CarmenMichelle

Meanwhile, Systems Title Engineer CarmenMichelle Flowers encourages interns to: "be curious. Ask those questions!"
